Foreign Investment Creates Thousands of Jobs in France
Approximately 32,000 jobs were created or maintained thanks to foreign direct investment in France, Christine Lagarde, minister of Finance, and David Appia, president of the French Agency for International Investments (AFII), announced on March 13. In total, foreign enterprises pursued 640 investment projects in 2008 - up from 624 the previous year. "It's a sign of confidence on the part of investors," officials at the Minstry of Finance affirmed. 22,510 foreign businesses are present in France today, employing a total of 2.8 million people, according to Le Figaro. Microsoft recently created one hundred new jobs by opening a new research and development center in Issy-les-Moulineaux. "Structural reforms led by France, whether the greater flexibility in the labor market or research in tax credits" are behind such attractiveness to international business, the officials at the Ministry of Finance asserted.

Small Business Roundtable
On Wednesday, May 27 we held the third Small Business Roundtable. Although attendance was smaller than usual, the discussions and conversations were invaluable to those in attendance. Yolanda Duperret of Action Coach facilitated the Roundtable whose focus this month was on creating and/or fine tuning the Mission, Vision and Culture statements of your business. Committing these to paper helps to lay down the supports on which every business is built. Thank you once again to Katherine's French Bakery for sponsoring this event and to the Alliance Francaise for providing the space.
The FACC held its 3rd Annual L'Esprit de France Benefit Gala on Friday, May 15 at the Westin Tabor Center. 120 guests savored the five-course French dinner prepared by French Chef Jean-Luc Voegele and the accompanying wines which were provided by WJ Deutsch & Sons. Doug Krenick, a master sommelier, was on hand to talk about each of these wines throughout the meal.
Bill Clarke, the MC for the evening, was as animated as ever and really got the crowd excited for the very successful Live Auction. Jim Palermo, President of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, introduced two of their members, Scott O'Neil (piano) and Robyn Julyan (violin) who gave a mezmerizing performance. Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of an Award for Outstanding Contribution to French-American Business given to Ralph Peterson, Chairman of CH2M HILL, and our Guest of Honor for the evening. In addition, there was a variety of items in the Silent Auction as well as a decadent Dessert Buffet.
Thank you to all our sponsors, donors and guests who made this event the most successful to date. You can view photos of the evening on our website.
