Aquitaine Rental Properties from Barbara Budny
I recently purchased 27+ acres and have built 2 guest houses in a Bordeaux village, Villeranche-de-Lonchat, not far from St. Emilon. I want to use my property to help promote the area in a special way that exposes Americans to the countrysides of France. I look forward to meeting and working with the FACC to promote and inform them of what the southwest of France has to offer.

| Member Company Profile: CH2M HILL |
|
CH2M HILL is a global engineering, construction and operations company headquartered in Denver, Colorado. The firm was founded in 1946 by four down-to-earth visionaries who came out of World War II believing that engineering was the foundation for building a new and better world. From the outset, these men were focused on two fundamentals: people and projects. Find the best people; cultivate a culture where they can be creative and innovative; promote safety, honesty, integrity, and collaboration; produce the best possible solutions for clients; and share the rewards of successful projects with the employees who make it possible.
For more than 60 years, CH2M HILL has followed this success formula to provide clean drinking water...build highways and sustainable transportation systems...improve the environment by restoring ecosystems and habitats...design and construct state-of-the-art facilities and industrial plants...and develop new energy resources. Most importantly, the dedicated men and women of CH2M HILL have delivered engineering solutions that increase the quality of life in communities around the world.
Today, CH2M HILL has more than 25,000 employees on six continents working on some of the most complex and exciting projects on the planet. In Panama, they're managing the construction of a third set of locks which will widen shipping channels to accommodate 21st century-sized cargo loads. In Great Britain, they're part of a team managing venue and infrastructure development for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In Abu Dhabi, they're helping create the first city in the world to generate zero-carbon and zero-waste. In Australia and Singapore, where fresh water resources are limited, they're using cutting-edge desalination technologies to provide sustainable water supplies. And in places like Sandy Springs, Georgia; Albany, Oregon; and Centennial, Colorado, they're partnering with municipalities to manage day-to-day operations to reduce costs and improve city services.
From their Colorado headquarters to the many large cities and small towns around the world where they live and work, CH2M HILL is committed to the vision and core values of the founders to build a better world and make a difference in the lives of others.

| Interview with an Expert: Yvon Cariou, President/CEO of Dynamic Materials Corp. |
|
At the FACC we have a wealth of people who are successful in business. In an effort to highlight some of these individuals while sharing some of their insights and advice, we will be conducting brief interviews each month with one of our members. We hope you find this newest addition to our E-Newsletter helpful and useful in your own business endeavors.
Background: Yvon Cariou began his career in France working as a product manager for Carbone Lorraine. After taking an assignment in New Jersey to head up the US division for 8 years, he headed back to France and became the manager of the Lorraine plant. Not long after, he returned to the US, this time to California, to be the chairman & CEO of Goldsworthy Engineering, who had recently declared bankruptcy. After 2 years, he was able to put the company back on its feet. Next he joined with Thames Water Treatment out of the UK as the CEO of LA Water Treatment, the US division. While working there, he met an eccentric billionaire who owned a large elevator company in New York and was asked to come to New York to help out. Always having an interest in the field of aerospace, Cariou took a job as the fourth partner for an aerospace company. Ironically, it was the contacts from his early years with Carbon Lorraine which led him to his position with Dynamic Materials Corp. During his time at DMC, he has focused on selling off non-performing divisions, organizing his team, stabilizing the company and growing the business.
FACC: What is one of the greatest challenges you have encountered doing business cross-borders?
CARIOU: "Communication", across languages and across cultures. A challenge but also one of the great wealths of doing "global business".
FACC: You have been a CEO at several different companies, what advice do you have for others regarding management of people at such a high level?
CARIOU: Choose your team mates carefully, then delegate and support them 100%, trust and verify.
FACC: What is the most important characteristic you have held onto from your business experience in France? in the US?
CARIOU: We are well schooled in France for "Cartesian Analysis" and we are curious about the rest of the world. [In the US] Definitely, think POSITIVE and get things DONE. No procrastination, no whining.
FACC: What did it mean to you to receive the 2008 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award?
CARIOU: It was wonderful after 30 years in this country and deepening American roots, to be recognized by my peers as one of them.

Lo Cor de la Plana
September 21, 2008 Oriental Theater in Denver
French vocal ensemble Lo Cor de La Plana, from Marseilles, is one of the most exciting musical acts to come out of France in some time. Embracing the Occitan culture of their southern French roots, while injecting a healthy sense of humor and playful spirit, the group's performances are a romp through music from the ancient to the most contemporary. The New York Times, when writing about their performance at Globalfest in New York last January, called them "the most striking group at Globalfest. With just voices and percussion, they did remarkable things. They sang rich chordal harmonies and joyfully ricocheting counterpoint. " This six-member ensemble uses hand percussion, hand claps and foot stomps along with their own voices to create their sound. Ripe with passion and Mediterranean roots, flavors of Arabic, African and parts of Gregorian chant, the group takes you on a European journey that stirs the soul.
If you would like to learn more about the group or would like to sample their music, please visit our website at: www.sroartists.com/artists/locordelaplana/ or to hear a sample of their music go to www.myspace.com/locordelaplana. For information on the concert contact the Oriental at 303-455-2124.
