Greetings!

Michigan's Children is a statewide, independent voice for children and their families. We work with lawmakers, business leaders and communities to make Michigan a place where all children have the opportunity to thrive.

  • State Budget Action - New Analyses Available!

The Senate and House have now each completed action on the fiscal year 2011 budgets for School Aid and the Departments of Education and Community Health. These budgets will now go to conference committees to work out the differences to send a bill to the Governor for her signature.

The Senate has named conferees for both of these conference committees:

    • School Aid/Education: Senators Ron Jelinek, Cameron Brown, and Michael Switalski.
    • DCH: Senators Roger Kahn, John Pappageorge, and Deb Cherry.
The House has not yet appointed members for these conference committees. Be on the lookout for updates as members are named to conference committees. We encourage you to reach out to conferees to ensure that children are a priority in the state budget.

The Senate has also completed its version of the Department of Human Services fiscal year 2011 budget. The House Appropriations Subcommittee on DHS continues to work on its version.

Michigan's Children has developed several new Budget Basics with details of how children are affected in each of these budgets:
