Greetings Healthy Kids Action Network!
Federal health care reform is at a pivotal moment this
week as the U.S. House of Representatives is
expected to decide whether to vote on the legislation,
and without your help, health reform is likely
dead.
Without a House vote on the Senate-passed health
reform bill, children and their families will not see
comprehensive health reform this year.
More than 46 million Americans, including 8 million
children--150,000 children in Michigan, do not have
health care coverage. Millions more children and their
families do not have access to quality care or
preventive services.
State budget cuts and high unemployment rates have
exacerbated the situation in Michigan. Doing
nothing
or putting off reform is unacceptable.
American children and families will benefit only if the
House passes the Senate health bill. Now, as the
House wavers, it's up to you to tell your
representatives you expect them to finish the job.
Tell your member of Congress:
- You support the Senate bill because it bolsters
Medicaid/CHIP, covers the uninsured, and helps
children and families in countless other ways.
- Step-by-step approaches won't do enough. Only a
comprehensive bill can ensure children and their
families get access to high-quality health care.
- The House must first pass the Senate bill.
Compromise can happen later, but uninsured
children need help now.
