Congress is now breaking for its August recess and
members will be in their districts. Now is the time
for advocates for reforms that benefit children to make
their views heard.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
(HELP) Committee has already approved its portion of
health care reform. The Senate Finance Committee,
which will be a major player in reform due to its
jurisdiction over Medicaid and Medicare, has yet to
act. All three House committees (Tri-Committee) have
finished their portions of the America's Affordable
Health Choice Act (H.R. 3200), which included critical
provisions for children.
Michigan's children are losing health care insurance
at significant rates: 6.2 percent in 2007 compared to
4.7 percent in 2006 were uninsured. With continued
job loss, economic recession, and rising health care
costs this trend will continue. Health care reform is
increasingly important for Michigan children.
Don't miss this opportunity to help ensure coverage of
all children. It is urgent that you
contact your members of the Congressional
delegation while they are home from now until
September 7th. Find out more in
our August 19 Action Alert.
