On Thursday, February 12, 2009, Governor
Granholm released her proposed state budget
for the upcoming fiscal year (FY 2010), which
begins October 1st of this year and ends on
September 30th of 2010.
The Governor's budget eliminated all funding
for the 0 to 3 Secondary Prevention program,
as well as Michigan's Nurse-Family
Partnership programs. Specifically, the
Governor recommended eliminating:
- All state funding for the 0 to 3
Secondary Prevention Program (also know as
Early Childhood Collaborative grants in some
budgets), including $3,843,800 in the fiscal
year 2010 budget for the Department Human
Services; $524,000 in the Department of
Community Health (DCH) budget; and $2,125,000
in the School Aid budget.
- All state funding ($2,000,000) for the
Nurse Family Partnership program.
- All state funding ($5,000,000) for the
Great Parent/Great Start program through
Intermediate School Districts.
These are proven programs critical to the
success of our children. Find out what you
can do and who to contact to prevent these
cuts in the Feb.
