Wilmington, Del. - 20 September 2010 - The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts announces its series of FREE adult programs for Fall 2010. The press is invited to attend any of the program dates.
DCCA FALL 2010 FREE ADULT PROGRAMS
ART SALAD The FALL 2010 Art Salad season offers ten free programs that feature multi-point perspectives into the world of contemporary art from artists, historians, educators, and curators. Held from noon - 1 pm on Thursdays from September 30 through December 9, 2010. No pre-registration is required. The talks are free and open to the public.
FREE ARTIST LECTURES The DCCA will offer FREE Guest Artist Lectures on two Sunday's during the FALL 2010 season. Pre-registration recommended for these two events. Seating is limited. Call the event hotline at 302-656-6466 x 7100 to reserve your seat.
- Sunday, October 10, 2010 from 2 - 3 pm British Artist, David Mabb will speak on and discuss his installation titled " The Morris Kitsch Archive." Reception to follow.
- Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 2 - 4 pm Delaware artist and film-maker Kendall Messick will present a screening of his documentary film titled "The Projectionist" about the late Everett Theatre's projectionist of 33 years, Gordon Binckle and his life. There will also be a launch and signing of Messick's new book titled "The Projectionist."

Art Salad is a free lunchtime lecture series that features multi-point perspectives into the world of contemporary art from artists, historians, educators, and curators. Bring your own lunch or arrive by 11:45 am to place an order for delivery from Cosi®. No pre-registration is required.

September 30 Curator of Special Projects J. Susan Isaacs, Ph.D., will give a historical introduction to James Brantley's land and cityscapes focusing on the tradition of urban landscapes in American art. Artist James Brantley will follow with a discussion of his work featured in the DCCA exhibition Tranquility.
October 7 DCAD Director of Academic Studies Christine Tate, Ph.D., will lecture on the history of pattern and surface design from William Morris through present day as it relates to DCCA exhibitions In Canon and The Morris Kitsch Archive.
October 14 Tricia McLaughlin will discuss her installation of painting, sculpture, and animation in her exhibition What's She Building in There?
October 21 Guest Curator Margaret Winslow will discuss the exhibition In Canon which explores "the human condition, notions of beauty, or personality in popular culture" throughout the art historical "canon."
October 28 Philadelphia-based artist Jane Irish will speak about her whiteware vases and lush paintings on display in In Canon which combine references to conceptual artists working in the mid-20th century.
November 4 Baltimore artist Rene Trevino will discuss his work included in the exhibition In Canon.
November 11 Philadelphia artist Katie Baldwin discusses her prints in conjunction with the exhibition Things Left Behind.
November 18 DCCA Teaching Artists Ben Volta and Lisa Volta will speak about their independent and collaborative artwork as well as the DCCA's Contemporary Connections outreach projects with Bancroft Elementary School in Wilmington, DE.
December 2 DCCA Teaching Artist Emily Bowser will discuss her artwork including installation, performance, and sculpture.
December 9 Philadelphia-based artist Susan Myers will discuss her sculpture exhibition Sleight of Hand which includes work from her Aluminum Series and Disposable Series.

David Mab b speaks about The Morris Kitsch Archive Sunday, October 10, 2010
2 - 3 pm David Mabb Lecture 3 - 5 pm Wine & Cheese Reception
The Morris Kitsch Archive is an installation created by British artist David Mabb. Mabb will discuss The Morris Kitsch Archive on display in the Bieber Ham Gallery. The archive contains over 720 images of commercially produced domestic objects decorated with the textile and wallpaper designs of the extremely well-known and influential nineteenth-century English interior designer, writer, and social activist William Morris. Mabb's exhibition and lecture are being held in conjunction with the University of Delaware's "Useful and Beautiful" conference and are sponsored, in part, by Goldsmiths University.

Kendall Messick and The Projectionist Sunday, November 7, 2010

Kendall Messick is an installation artist who works with photography, film, video, and other media. The Projectionist is a documentary film, book, and multi-media exhibition created by Messick that focuses on Middletown resident Gordon Binckle, Everett Theatre's projectionist for 33 years; his life-long fascination with the golden age of film; and the small-scale version of a grand movie palace that he built in his basement! Messick's book titled The Projectionist is being published this fall by Princeton Architectural Press.

About the DCCA The DCCA, a non-collecting art museum founded in 1979, presents between 20 - 30 exhibitions annually of regionally, nationally and internationally recognized artists that explore topical issues in contemporary art and society, as well as symposia, lectures and tours. The DCCA provides individual studios to more than 25 artists, who also exhibit regularly within its galleries and throughout the region. The DCCA presents a variety of educational and outreach programs, including programs that integrates contemporary arts into the public school curriculum, and artists' residencies that feature collaboration with underserved community groups. The center is housed in a renovated industrial building at 200 South Madison St. in the heart of the rejuvenated Wilmington Riverfront.
