Greetings! Grace and trust have become the buzzwords of my life recently. A sort of "perfect storm" surrounding the film and our team has really challenged us. Some of the events are things about which I have written in the past: the political turmoil and hurdles in Venezuela, the general challenges of making an indigenous film in a developing country with inexperienced actors and crew, etc. However, there are other issues about which I have not written, or only hinted at, that have deeply affected us. Primarily, these surround the making of the film and the simultaneous collapse of a larger organization to which we were connected. All during production, beginning in January, we had almost daily crises that threatened to shut us down. None of these were things we expected, like hurricanes or irate local citizens in Belize. I won't go into more details now and I haven't been able to communicate much before this for many reasons, but I'm telling you just a bit now so that you can keep us in your thoughts and prayers. I hadn't realized how traumatic some of these things were until our core 10X team returned home to the US and discovered that they really were not OK and able to just jump back into life and the post-production of the film. I'm happy to say that it appears to me that everyone is "back in the saddle" and eager to finish the film - but only just now. Hence my lack of communication with you even though lots has been going on with the film. Matt, our Producer of the film, has written this update for you on some of the pieces and the progress we've made since the end of March. Thank you for joining with us, Tom Khazoyan -- Executive Producer, The Enemy God (Yai Wanonabälewä) film |

Editing Underway ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matt Castagna writes: Executive Producer Tom Khazoyan has taken on the Herculean task of editing the film. Good progress has been made and we expect a rough cut of the film to be completed by early July. The rough cut will then be sent to the director, Christopher Bessette. He will take some time to add his "touch" to the film. Finally, Tom, Christopher and I will get together and hammer out the final editing details. Meanwhile, our composer, Tim Alberts is beginning to create a score for the film which will add drama and excitement to the story.

Special Effects ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Keyframe, a special effects company, is
working on some of the shots that need
their expertise in helping to bring the
story to life. For instance, in the scene
pictured to the right, the actors are
depicting a war party crossing a log below a
waterfall. Because the scene was too
dangerous to do in real life, we shot this
scene with the log sitting on top of a
trailer parked in front of a huge piece of
blue cloth. A real waterfall was shot
several weeks prior to this. The blue
background will be removed and replaced by
the waterfall shot and the viewing audience
will never know the difference.

In the scene to the left, a victorious war
party is leaving the village they've attacked
and set fire to. We had to get this scene
right the first time as we only had one film
set we could burn! (No Hollywood effects
here, just real fire on a real shabano!)
Praise God, it worked out
great!

Prayer Requests ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
· Please pray for our transition from filming
into our post-production process of editing,
creating special effects, music scoring, etc.
The complexity of dealing with cast and crew
and locations is past, but this phase of the
film is just as important. It is the time
where all of the pieces we have filmed come
together into a whole story on film.
· Pray for our cast and crew as they resume their "normal" lives - some of them on their next film project and some back in school or work. We hope that the impact of the film-making process will ultimately be blessing to them all.
