Project Sanctuary - That We May Never Forget Them
Whenever a service member is deployed, an entire family sacrifices.
But there is a place where husbands, wives and children once separated by war can learn to be a family again and it's called Project Sanctuary. It looks like a carefree hike through the Colorado wilderness, but it is really about military families struggling with years of deployments.
Project Sanctuary provides therapeutic retreats enabling military families to reconnect and reintegrate into their communities through education, innovative services and supportive follow through.
CBS News has written a report that explains more about this dynamic program. Read more.

Kaitlin Winter-Eulberg Receives 1st Ever
Hayes Memorial Scholarship
The Hayes Memorial Scholarship was established by Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Los Alamos, New Mexico to reward a deserving new ELCA seminarian from the Rocky Mountain Synod. The first recipient of a Hayes Scholarship is Kaitlin Winter-Eulberg who will begin seminary studies this summer at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA. Kaitlin is a "double PK;" both her parents are Lutheran pastors (read her biography for more details).
Funding for the Hayes Memorial Scholarship is from a generous bequest made in 2009 to Bethlehem from the Hayes family estate. In 2010 the Bethlehem congregation designated one quarter of the Hayes bequest for investment by the church's endowment committee.
In 2012 members of the congregation pledged start up funds for the Hayes seminarian scholarship, the result of which was the selection of Kaitlin who was chosen from a number of qualified applicants provided to Bethlehem by the RMS.

Annual Mount of the Holy Cross Pilgrimage This Weekend!
Each year since 1976, Mount of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vail, CO, has sponsored a pilgrimage hike up Notch Mountain to view Mt. of the Holy Cross. Again this year Mount of the Holy Cross will sponsor pilgrimages climbing Notch Mountain in order to view the Mount of the Holy Cross.
There is a brief service of worship near the summit before descending. It's a wonderful experience for those who participate and this year the community of Mount of the Holy Cross wanted to offer the opportunity to a wider audience. The dates are Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, 2012. The event will be from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. This is a fairly strenuous hike and requires good hiking boots and waterproof weather protection.
There is no cost to participate but pre-registration is required. Please email the church or call 970- 476-6610 to receive a registration form or for more details.
