October 4, 2011
Greetings!

 Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.

Today, October 4th, is St. Francis Day. St. Francis lived in the 13th century in Italy, and by his lifestyle and love for the world, set an example that still inspires many today. He lived a life of radical poverty, obedience and simplicity. There are many legends about him, but his life was the genesis of the Franciscan Order of monks and continues to speak loudly today for environmental causes and for a faith that is inclusive of all creation because of his conversion to the life of Christ.

OUR LIFE TOGETHER
Seventeenth Sunday After Pentecost

Lord of the feast, you have prepared a table before all the peoples and poured out your life with abundance. Call us again to your banquet. Strengthen us by what is honorable, just and pure, and transform us into a people of righteousness and peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Worship Resources for Registration Sunday!

Plan a registration day celebration in your congregation to support the youth and caring adults who will participate in the 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering. Click here for all kinds of help including prayers and sermon notes that blend the texts for Sunday, October 9, 2011, with the text around which the Youth Gathering is being built, Ephesians 2: 4-20.  You may even want to plan a party that features foods from New Orleans like gumbo or jambalaya.

We gather as citizens with the saints of New Orleans to learn to love like Jesus by practicing discipleship through peacemaking that works for justice. Remembering who we are in Christ, we will:

  • Live among God's faithful people,
  • Hear the word of God and share in the Lord's supper,
  • Proclaim the good news of God in Christ through words and deed,
  • Serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
  • Strive for justice and peace in all the earth.

Check out who is attending from the RMS, explore local travel options, and get the latest information from your synod coordinator and coach.

Colorado's Budget: In Plain Talk

Lutheran Advocacy Ministry - CO, in conjunction with other faith advocacy partners, is proud to introduce Colorado's Budget: In Plain Talk video and discussion guide to help spark a statewide conversation about the budget and our fiscal challenges.

Produced by The Bell Policy Center and ProgressNow Colorado, the video and discussion guide use broad strokes to paint a picture of how the state collects and spends its money. It then offers options, but proposes no specific solutions, for fixing our broken fiscal system. The discussion materials maybe found at http://bellpolicy.org/content/video-tool-kit-discussion-guide-powerpoint-and-presentation-handouts or on a link at www.lam-co.org.

Go to www.lam-co.org where you can see the video, and from there follow a link to download the discussion materials for use in your congregation. The conversations had by faith communities are important, because in Colorado, it is the voters, not legislators, who make the major decisions about taxes and fiscal policy.

5th Annual Grace Race

Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp is hosting its 5th Annual Grace Race on Saturday, October 8, 2011 with 2011 Grace Race emblema 9:00 a.m. start. All proceeds and donations will be given to ELCA World Hunger. This is a 5K run/walk around beautiful Sloan's Lake in south Denver. There will be food and refreshments for all participants following the race. The entry fee is $35 after October 1. You can register for the race anytime, even on the day of the race; however, after October 1, we can't guarantee you'll get one of the cool long sleeve tech shirts from the race.

2011 Grace Race imageSo, here is the push. For the past two years, we have been trying to raise enough money to send a check for over $10,000 to ELCA World Hunger. We NEED to do it this year! If every person that has participated or thought about participating in the past Grace Races brought just one new person (and you can bring more!!), we would have over 400 participants and that will really push us over that $10,000 mark. Bring your friends, family, and members from your church. You don't have to be a runner to make a difference. We had parents with baby strollers, grandparents with grand kids, and runners and walkers of all types last year.

If your church wants to be a sponsor, have them contact Dave Jarvis by email! Congregations will get their church name on the shirt.

Get those registrations in now! Come join us for a great morning in the park for a great cause. You can register on-line! To learn more and to register, go to www.rainbowtrail.org/the_grace_race/.  Let's make this 5th Annual Grace Race one to remember!
