Greetings! |
RTLC Says Thanks and seeks donations for Horn Creek gift
Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp is hosting its first full week back on its site. After being evacuated four weeks ago and providing their ministry at another site, the RTLC staff was allowed to return home on July 14th.
But an amazing chapter in this whole miracle was the gift that Horn Creek gave to Rainbow Trail. On the Monday afternoon after Rainbow Trail was evacuated from their site, Doug Jones, the Executive Director at Horn Creek, offered one of their sites for Rainbow Trail to continue their ministry the rest of the week. At the end of that first week when RTLC was not going to be allowed back into their site, Dave Jarvis approached Doug about the next week and what RTLC's financial obligations would be. Doug responded that the next three weeks were open and that there would be no charge. Dave asked how they could do that. Doug's response was "that's what neighbors do." Rainbow Trail was able to continue its ministry for another three weeks at Horn Creek.
Horn Creek has given Rainbow Trail a gift that they will never be able to fully repay - the gift of being able to continue to serve and do ministry.
Because of this incredible generosity from Horn Creek, Rainbow Trail would like to gather gifts to give a $15,000 thank offering to Horn Creek. RTLC is hoping that both congregations and individuals will consider making an over and above gift to this project. Gifts can be sent to the Rainbow Trail and marked Horn Creek gift. All donors to this project will be listed in a letter that will accompany the gift. Thanks for continuing to be partners in ministry with Rainbow Trail!
"It has been quite a journey, but God has been so present through the whole four weeks!"
Dave Jarvis, Director
Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp

REMEMBRANCE AND WORSHIP: COMMEMORATING 9/11
|
Shadow and Light: A Time of Remembrance and Hope
On September 11, 2001, our lives and world were changed. In tragic and shocking ways, we suffered terrorist attacks in our homeland, including the murders of 184 at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Men, women, and children in our congregations and neighborhoods can recall when and where they first learned of these events and the meaning they would have individually and for our world.
A series of interfaith events are being planned in Denver for the weekend of 9-11 including workshops, concerts, dialogues, cultural exchanges and a community-wide interfaith worship service on Sunday evening.
These events will center on the Shadow and Light theme emphasizing a faith-filled perspective on a time of remembrance of those who perished and the hope of human beings living together in peace and giving witness to the value of each child of God. Contact Rabbi Steve Booth-Nadav, coordinator of the planning group.
---------------------------------------------------
The Worship Committee of the Metro D.C. Synod has developed a resource to commemorate the anniversary of September 11 to help us remember the ways our senses and our souls were affected that day. Congregations are invited to use the Entrance Rite including prayers, litany and hymn suggestions.

CONGREGATIONAL RESOURCE
| Talking with Teens and Adults about Bullying Welcome to Seekardia, a growing resource for preventing bullying (for any reason). This resource is designed to be used by church leaders, school professional, employers, and employees. Cindy Crane, formerly an ordained clergy for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), created Seekardia to offer another voice and perspective in the ongoing journey to prevent bullying.
Bullying not only affects youth who are targets of incessant taunting, but a whole array of witnesses to it. What do church leaders have to say about bullying prevention to the youth, parents and other concerned adults? Clergy and lay leaders who also want to understand more about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues that specifically relate to youth will benefit from Seekardia. Seekardia has created a 36-page guide (Talking with Teens and Adults about Bullying: What Do Church Leaders have to Say?) which includes a section with basic information about bullying, a youth section with several lesson plans to use with youth 6th-12th grades in confirmation class, Sunday school, youth groups, retreats, or meetings organized to specifically address bullying. |
