June 21, 2011
Greetings!

Los Alamos fire causes VBS cancellation

A forest fire outside Los Alamos, New Mexico, has swelled to about 93 square miles resulting in the cancellation of Vacation Bible School this week at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos. The town of 12,500 residents has been evacuated. The wildfire has destroyed 30 structures south and west of Los Alamos, for many stirring memories of a devastating blaze in May 2000 that destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings in town.

Meanwhile, Rainbow Trail Camp continues this week at Horn Creek since the fire in that area is not fully contained. Bishop Allan Bjornberg and Pastor Dan Bollman visited the site last week, are in awe of how close the fire came to consuming parts of the camp.

OUR LIFE TOGETHER
Third Sunday After Pentecost

You are great, O God and greatly to be praised. You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you. Grant that we may believe in you, call upon you, know you, and serve you through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

at California Lutheran University

So, you have a lot going on in your life? Sometimes in the middle of school and work, family and friends, expectations and hopes don't you just scream out for a break?   How do you balance all this stuff when so much of it seems out of balance?

When the world seems to be pulling you in all directions at the same time the words of Paul are welcome.  There is "NOTHING that can separate from the love of Christ."

In the confusion of voices, all telling us different things what is God calling us to be about? Join us this summer on the campus of California Lutheran University as we celebrate that which nothing can take away - the love of God in Jesus Christ.  Join us as we consider how Jesus is our balance leading us to lives that make a difference. So, you have a lot going on in your life?

A Call To Action - Providing Hunger Relief  for Metro Denver

Metro CareRing is challenging people in the Denver area to join Avenues of Hope:  9.10.11. Please take just a few minutes to watch the video from Metro CareRing. Avenues of Hope: Hunger Stops Here (9.10.11) is a community movement to eradicate hunger by educating, motivating and encouraging everyone to give! Please check out the website to see how you might be able to Help. Thank you for being a hunger relief advocate for the hungry here in Denver!

The goal for faith communities in the metro-Denver area is to collectively raise $120,000 on or before September 10, 2011 (9.10.11) and to collect 120,000 lbs. of food. There are a number of ways to participate:

  • Pledge to do "a dollar per day" or a "pound per day" or BOTH
  • Promise to gather "a pound of food each day" for 100 days
  • Share ideas that you have; and
  • Pray, so collectively we end hunger in our community.

Stay tuned for news and events about where and how to give your "dollar per day" and where to bring your offerings of food., so that enough food for all hungry people in Denver can be collected. Money to sustain the hungry of Colorado will also be gathered. Be a part of it!
