Greetings!

Shabbat come in just a few hours from now, and when it ends our thoughts turn to celebrating Israel's sixty-two years of Independence. I hope to see you on Sunday afternoon at Temple, as the El Paso Jewish Community comes together to celebrate. Details are below.

Israel will also be on our minds during this evening's Kabbalat Shabbat Service, beginning at 6:15 pm. Our music will be rooted in the land of Israel, and I share some thoughts about the meaning of the Jewish State.

Please remember to take part in our blood drive during the coming week if you haven't already. More informtion follows.

On Friday, April 16, the Oneg Shabbat begins at 5:45, and is hosted by Fifi Heller-Kaim & Boris Kaim in memory of Josefina Kaim and by John & Rita Silverman in memory of Grace Fagelman. Our Kabbalat Shabbat Service follows. The Kiddush following our service is hosted by Stanley & Dina Marcus in memory of Gerrold Marcus.

On Saturday, April 17, Torah Study begins at 9:30 am, in Zielonka Hall. Our Shabbat Morning Service follows at 10:30 am. The Kiddush following the service is hosted by Nancy & Stuart Shiloff in memory of David Terk. At noon, B'nai Mitzvah Class meets in the library.
Temple Mount Sinai will be holding a blood drive from April 12 - 23 at United Blood Services locations throughout El Paso.  The blood drive was inspired by Rabbi Bach's Yom Kippur message about the importance of stepping up to save lives. "The blood drives comes about due to the efforts of the Face to Face meetings and our goal is 118 donations in this two-week period" said Mark Schrier, the leader of the monthly sessions.

UBS locations include: 424 S. Mesa Hills (544-5422 for an appointment); 1338 N. Zaragoza (849 - 7389); and 4758 Loma del Sol (822 - 8438)
When registering with United Blood Services, please mention that you are part of the Temple Mount Sinai blood drive.

Appointments may also be made at unitedbloodservices.org.

All participants giving blood (or trying to give blood) will be honored on the bimah on Friday night, April 23 at Temple Mount Sinai during the evening services.
This week at Temple...

On Sunday, April 18, Religious School begins at 9:30 pm. The Jewish community celebrates Israel's Independence beginning with food at 12:30 pm in Schwartz Hall, continuing with a 1:15 pm program in the Sanctuary, and concluding with a screening of "Sof Ha'olam, Smolah" at 2:15 in the Krupp Chapel.

On Tuesday, April 20, Open Tent meets at 6:30 pm. At 7:30 pm, people traveling to Israel with Temple in June will meet in Zielonka Hall. The Social Action Committee encourages members to attend City Council on Tuesday morning, as they consider changes to Accessible Housing, an issue of importance to some of our members. To learn more, speak with TMS members Olivia Chavez or John Eger.

On Wednesday, April 21, Yoga Class begins at 10 am in Zielonka Hall. Hebrew School meets at 4:30 pm, Shir Chadash rehearses at 5:30 pm, and Adult Hebrew meets at 6 pm. At 6:30 pm, Temple members are encouraged to join us for the Annual Meeting of Temple Mount Sinai, in the Krupp Chapel.

On Thursday, April 22, at 10 am, we will dedicate Aghdas Khodadad Tavana's headstone at the Temple Cemetery. At 5 pm, PJ Library Participants are invited to story time with Rabbi Bach and Tara Schrier.
On Friday, April 23, at 11 am, we will dedicate Marvin Diamond's headstone at the Temple Cemetery. Our Kabbalat Shabbat Service begins at 6:15 pm. The service will be preceded by an Oneg Shabbat at 5:45 pm.

On Saturday, April 24, Torah Study begins at 9:30 am and our Shabbat Morning Service begins at 10:30 am. We will celebrate with Jordyn McCoy as she becomes a Bat Mitzvah. Mazel Tov, Jordyn!
