We're a little late this week, as I was away from El Paso attending the
annual convention of the Central Conference of American Rabbis...but in
the waning hours of the workweek all of us on Temple's staff and lay
leadership wish you a Shabbat Shalom!

Rabbi David Forman, March 14-17
 We are delighted to welcome Rabbi David Forman of Jerusalem to El Paso on Sunday, March 14. From Sunday to Wednesday, he will teach at Temple and around town. David's presence is sponsored by the El Paso Jewish Federation's CLAL initiative and by Rabbi Bach's Discretionary Fund. Rabbi Forman is the founder of Rabbis for Human Rights. He served as RHR's chairperson between 1988 and 1992 and between 2002 and 2003. He has held a number of key leadership positions during his rabbinic career, including Director of the Israel Office of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, where he led the struggle for religious pluralism in Israel. Rabbi Forman will speak several times during his visit to El Paso, including the following public talks: - At 3 pm on Sunday, March 14, he will speak in Zielonka Hall on "Jewish Schizophrenia in the Land of Israel."
- On Monday at 7:30 pm, he will speak at the El Paso Catholic Diocese's Pastoral Center (499 St. Matthew's Street, in the Mission Valley) on "Jerusalem: Holy City to Three Faiths."
- Rabbi Forman will be our guest teacher at Lunch and Learn on Tuesday at 11:45 am, speaking on the topic, "Can a Jewish State be a Democratic State?"
- Finally, on Wednesday at 7:30 pm in Zielonka Hall, he will speak to his thirty years of living in the Land of Israel: "A Retrospective."
All of these talks are free and open to the public; those who wish to purchase a lunch for the Tuesday session may do so for $10. RSVP's are very helpful (particularly for Tuesday) and can be made by calling Buddy at the Temple office or by sending a note to Buddy.

This Shabbat
March 12-13
The bima flowers this Shabbat are lovingly provided by Bonnie & Marty Colton in memory of Herbert Given, by Steve Rosenberg in memory of Lena Rosenberg, and by Valerie Barnett in memory of Stella Herman.
On Friday, March 12, the Oneg Shabbat begins at 5:45, and is hosted by Stephen Feinberg, Andrew Feinberg and Deborah Rosen in memory of Milton D. Feinberg. At 6:15 pm, our Kabbalat Shabbat Service begins. We welcome the Confirmation Class of Western Hills United Methodist Church visiting. As part of the service, we will dedicate the Chapel Foyer bookshelves in memory of Isadore Kahn. The Kiddush following is hosted by the Krasne Discretionary Fund.
On Saturday, March 13, Torah Study begins at 9:30 am, in Zielonka Hall. Our Shabbat Morning Service begins at 10:30 am. We welcome Peace Lutheran Church and Pastor Wayne Kendrick, and are honored to learn from Pastor Wayne this morning. The Kiddush following the service will be sponsored by the Krasne Discretionary Fund.

Just after Pesach, we'll welcome another outstanding teacher to El Paso. Rabbi Jonathan Slater of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality will be with us over Shabbat, April 9-10. This scholar's weekend is sponsored by the family of David Goodman, in his memory.

Next week at Temple...
Please note that there will be no Religious School on Sundays, March 14 or 21, and no mid-week Hebrew on March 17. Hebrew classes resume on March 24, and Religious School on March 28.
On Sunday, March 14, at 3 pm, we welcome Rabbi David Forman of Jerusalem to Temple Mount Sinai. Rabbi Forman will speak in Zielonka Hall: "Jewish Schizophrenia in the Land of Israel."
On Monday, March 15, Rabbi Forman will speak at 7:30 pm at the Pastoral Center of the El Paso Catholic Diocese, 499 St. Matthew's Street in the Mission Valley. His topic: "Jerusalem: Holy City to Three Faiths."
On Tuesday, March 16, at 11:45, we continue with our Lunch & Learn series in Zielonka Hall. Rabbi David Forman will speak on "Can a Jewish State be a Democratic State?" Please call Temple on Monday to make your reservation; lunch is $10.
On Wednesday, March 17, at 10 am, Yoga meets in Zielonka Hall. Adult Hebrew meets in Zielonka Hall at 6 pm. At 7:30 pm, Rabbi David Forman will speak: "Thirty Years in Israel: a Retrospective."
On Thursday, March 18, at 7:00 pm, the Young Adults of Mount Sinai (YAMS) will gather in Zielonka Hall to screen the Israeli comedy, "The Band's Visit."
On Friday, March 19, our Kabbalat Shabbat Service begins at 6:15 pm. The service will be preceded by an Oneg Shabbat at 5:45 pm; on Saturday, March 20, Torah Study begins at 9:30 am and our Shabbat Morning Service begins at 10:30 am.
