Downstairs, Methodist Church 2 Centre Street
We're very pleased to welcome Rebecca Chace, author of several books, including the powerful new coming of age novel "Leaving Rock Harbor".
Set in an evocative New England mill town in the early twentieth century, the story--which was inspired in part by Chace's own family history--follows the life of fourteen year old Frankie Mills and her family as they seek opportunity in a bustling city whose fortunes wane as history unfolds. One of my favorite booksellers, Annie Philbrick of Bank Square Books in Mystic, CT has this to say on IndieBound: "Tightly written, this is a novel full of love, rich New England history, and a vivid description of New England mill town's economic troubles in the wake of World War I. Frankie Ross, an independent, stubborn young woman tells us her story of loving two men, one of wealthy, upper middle class privilege and the other a Portuguese mill worker. An engaging read, and not just for New Englanders!"
The short film "Capture the Flag", based on Chace's novel of the same name, will be shown during the Nantucket Film Festival during the "Shorts Program 1" sessions on Friday at 1:00 pm and Sunday at 10:00 am.
