| The Last Stand |
 |
|
We don't have to remind fans of "In the Heart
of the Sea" that Nat
Philbrick--Nantucket's
own National Book Award Winning
historian--knows how to craft a story. We're
so thrilled that May 4th is imminent so we
can share his latest work.
"In his tightly structured narrative,
Nathaniel Philbrick brilliantly sketches the
two larger-than-life antagonists: Sitting
Bull, whose charisma and political savvy
earned him the position of leader of the
Plains Indians, and George Armstrong Custer,
one of the Union's greatest cavalry officers
and a man with a reputation for fearless and
often reckless courage....
Throughout, Philbrick beautifully evokes the
history and geography of the Great Plains
with his characteristic grace and sense of
drama. The Last Stand is a mesmerizing
account of the archetypal story of the
American West, one that continues to haunt
our collective imagination."

Dani Henke is doing a rockstar job of adding
fun content on a near daily basis, with
cookworks recipe reviews, poems for poetry
month, audio and book reviews, and more.
Reading her writing is almost as fun as
chatting with her in the store.
Also on the blog are reports from Ireland by
Dick Burns, who just returned from the Cuirt
Festival in Galway. Great stuff all around.

Mother's Day ~ May 9th! |
|
|
|
It's coming up mighty early this year... good
thing we're stocked up. In addition to the
big books, check out some of these goodies:
The Whale Shawl/Throw is a big 78"x42"
lightweight cotton number... quite a
head-turner over our counter.
The Chocolate Straws are hands down our
favorite new impulse item. You suck the milk
through the chocolate jimmie-filled straw...
delicious with a
great WOW factor.
Lastly and oddly, we have oodles of something
called Kathy's Healing Lotion. A shipment of
this great smelling organic lotion arrived
unordered, but lo and behold we liked it, and
so will any mom you know. We know lotion is a
stretch for us, but we like to keep you
guessing. : )
