2) We're also on Twitter, the next "bright shiny object in
the social media sphere" as someone smart we know
once said. Check it out and Follow us - we're known

3) When Patti Claflin sold the store, she said that her
dead cat was lovingly interred somewhere on the
premises.
4) Some employees have felt "a presence" in the
store. I hope it's just the cat...
5) In response to #3 and #4, we are half thinking of
getting a real live cat to reside at Ye Olde Bookworkes.
(Thoughts? Allergies? Memories of
other Town Cats?)
6) Wendy Hudson just got back from a booksellers'
gathering in Salt Lake City. Everyone in the industry is
freaking out about the future of bookselling and the
impact of digital content...
7) ...yet Wendy loves her iPhone, reads books on it,
and has had a Kindle on order since December. Her
philosophy has always been that knowledge is power.
(But she could be wrong.)
8) Co-manager Dick Burns's brain ranks among the
best
literary resources on Nantucket. (Talk about
institutional
memory.) His track record on pesky special orders--
including out of print books--is exemplary. Test him!
9) Co-manager Jeanne van Etten, a very gifted artist,
has a studio
on Fair Street. Check out her blog at http//nan
tucketmermaid.blogspot.com and see what she's
up to.
10) Bookworks started out in the basement of the
Mooney building on the corner of Federal and Broad.
Paperbacks and chess were the specialties.
11) Patti went into labor while she and Prenny were
moving books across
Broad Street to the current location after she bought
the building from Arte Krause circa 1976. (Hi Ned!)
12) The shelves came across the street too, which is
why the toys in the back room are mostly on shallow
tilted bookshelves. Character!
13) The current Bookworks building used to be a
doctor's office. It also used to be a store that sold
canvas sailor's shirts.
14) And then for a while it was the Brotherhood Band
House. For real. (Imagine the stories the walls could
tell... dead
cats and rock stars!) I might go track down Mulebone
in NYC for old times' sake...
15) This email builder only allows 15 things (phew) so
lastly: We love what we do and hope to stick around
indefinitely... Long live the funky little bookshops of the
world and thanks for your support.
