NANTUCKET  BOO-WORKS Late October 2008
Happy Holidays
Halloween, Day of the Dead, Election Day...
Mwaahahahaaa
A quick email before all the excitement.
Halloween on a Friday???  Spooky!

First off, I hope the whole island will come on down to town for the Halloween Parade at 5:15 on Main Street. The costume ribbon awards for the kids will take place on Main Street itself this year, and the Chamber is now issuing a prize for the best family theme costume. Work it!

After Main Street, be sure to do the rounds for all the other shops in town, and visit highlights such as the Dreamland, the Whaling Museum, and of course Ye Olde Bookworkes, where we wait all year for our chance to dress up and hand out free stuff.  Where but Nantucket could we know roughly 1283 kids by name? It's so much fun.

[Now remember to eat lots of candy so you can stay up and hit all the spots around town, winding up with a great local band at the Box.]

Saturday is Day of the Dead, a perfect time to honor our ancestors and all the culture of Mexico, perhaps by planning a vacation with a book from our travel section.  : )

Nov. 1st is also the day that Mitchell's Book Corner reopens in the Greenhound building - congrats to the MBC team for that speedy feat!

Then the really really big deal obviously is Tuesday, when we all VOTE.  (If anyone needs a ride to the polls, please let us know at 508-228-4000 and we'll make sure you get there.)  It's all about Nantucket's own Tim Madden for state representative... oh and the gentlemen running for president.

Thanks for tuning in,

Vampire Love
Not just for teenagers anymore...

Twilight

The Twilight Saga  has been building momentum for several years now, and the books have definitely broken out of the young adult section. In fact, many of my dearest friends have been reading into the wee hours of the night lately, caught up in the romantic triangle of Bella the mortal, Edward the vampire, and Jacob the werewolf. I'm hearing the famous Nantucket adage, "Don't knock it 'til you try it."

If you like vampires, werewolves, and obsessive teen love of an all-consuming kind--and honestly, who doesn't?--these books just might be for you, and maybe even for me. I'll let you know.

Read the books now so you'll be ready when the movie hits theaters November 21st.
