August 2006

We're enjoying the summer so much and hope you are too. Beautiful beaches, delicious food, fun people, great books--what could be better than Nantucket in the summer?

This week is extra special at Bookworks--we are thrilled to welcome three of our favorite authors. Between them they have something for the whole family.

    Elin's Accolades
    love season cover

Elin is practically dodging the paparazzi these days, as her latest Nantucket novel has been getting a lot of media attention. "The Love Season" was chosen as a People Magazine starred pick earlier in the summer. Go Elin! We're happy to say it's selling like hotcakes.

If you haven't yet nabbed a copy of this fast-paced summer treat, now's your chance for a signed copy. If you've read it, stop by to pressure Elin to do a sequel!

    Barnaby's Adventures Continue
    Barnaby Bear Plush

Wendy Rouillard's energy is amazing. Every year, she adds something fun to her Barnaby Bear collection while running her growing company. The newest book is "Barnaby 1 2 3," a board book for the youngest fans.

More and more popular every year, the Barnaby books- -and plush Barnaby in his little Nantucket Red overalls--make great gifts and fun souvenirs.

    Cary Hazlegrove's Bar Book
    Best Bars of New York

Just had to include this. Cary Hazlegrove (another prolific local wonder woman!) did the photos for "The History and Stories of the Best Bars of New York City." Sounds like a fun assignment for sure, particularly because of all the characters she must have met along the way.

Evocative black and white photos set the mood for the fascinating text. One just might have to use this as something of a travel guide next time one is in the city...

    J.R. Moehringer Thursday August 10th 5:30-6:30pm
JR Moehringer & Tender Bar cover

"The Tender Bar" is one of my favorites in recent memory. Many of you know that I've been pushing this book into the hands of anyone who will listen, so you'll appreciate what a treat it is for us to have the author come to the store.

J.R. is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, and it's the writing that immediately sets this book apart. The book itself is J.R.'s memoir of growing up in Manhasset, NY with an incredible cast of characters as his family and a bar as his pychological home.

I loved this book for the various types of intelligence it describes: book learning and an ivy league education vie with the street smarts of the eloquent patrons and the seductive wisdom of alchohol in the grand scheme of things. (Since I'm a bookseller who also co-founded Cisco Brewers, you can see why all this is right up my alley : ) ) -Wendy

We'll have both hardcover and paperback copies of the book available, and can reserve or mail signed copies for you.
