John Abrams, a builder on Martha's Vineyard, recently
spoke and signed books at a Sustainable Nantucket
gathering. His business, South Mountain
Company, is a leader on the Vineyard in areas of
community involvement and socially responsible
business.
His recent book "The Company We Keep:
Reinventing
Small Business for People, Community and

both idealistic and concrete, and a great resource for
socially-minded entrepreneurs.

Contributing to and preserving Nantucket's
community life are important goals for us at
Bookworks. In the last year, I have gotten involved
with Sustainable
Nantucket, and was recently named Chair of the
organization. It's an exciting time.
Sustainable Nantucket is a private, nonprofit
organization whose mission is "To sustain Nantucket’s
economic vitality while preserving and restoring
community character".
I encourage anyone
interested to find out more about the group. One
way Bookworks helps is by providing and selling
books for Sustainable Nantucket events. All proceeds
from these events go to the organization.

Colin Woodard Discussion & Booksigning
|
|
|
Tuesday August 16th, 7pm
at The Harbor House--Madaket Room Author
Colin Woodard will speak and engage in
discussion about his latest book "The
Lobster Coast: Rebels, Rusticators, and the Struggle
for a Forgotten Frontier."
From the publisher: "In this riveting history of
his native state,
award-winning journalist Colin Woodard reveals
Mainers' increasingly difficult struggle to hold on
to their communities and the early American
ideals that have sustained them. The Lobster Coast
tells a story as big as America itself, from the
formative experiences of the colonial era to the
perils of failing to conserve a cultural and
environmental heritage in the face of
uncontrolled growth and development."
The evening promises to stimulate thought and
focus discussion about a topic that concerns us all.
