Sunny Side of Life | The Old Mule Once
upon a time a farmer owned an old mule who tripped and fell into the
farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule braying and was unable to
figure out how to bring up the old animal. It grieved him that he could
not pull the animal out. He'd been a good worker around the farm.
Although the farmer sympathized with the mule, he called his neighbors
together and told them what had happened. He had them help haul dirt to
bury the old mule in the well and quietly put him out of his misery. At
first, the old mule was puzzled, but as the farmer and his neighbors
continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, he had a thought: he
ought to shake off the dirt and step up. And he did just that. "Shake
it off and step up...shake it off and step up...shake it off and step
up." Even though he took painful blows of dirt and fought panic, he just
kept right on shaking it off and stepping up! It
wasn't long before the old mule stepped up and over the lip of that
well. What could have buried him actually blessed him...all because of
the manner in which he handled his adversity. ~author unknown |

Leadership 101
Let me encourage every reader to consider the following statements and take to heart the implementation of these attitudes, principles, and ideas into your leadership style and everyday living. These quotes are a collection of some of my favorite attitudes. Focus on a couple of these everyday for a week and watch what happens in your thought processes. I personally plan on striving daily to be a better leader in my home, community, and business.
Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living; the other helps you make a life.
~Sandra Carey
Good plans shape good decisions. That's why good planning helps to make elusive dreams come true.
~Lester R. Bittel
I used to think that running an organization was equivalent to
conducting a symphony orchestra. But I don't think that's quite it; it's
more like jazz. There is more improvisation.
~Warren Bennis
A new leader has to be able to change an organization that is
dreamless, soulless and visionless ... someone's got to make a wake up
call.
~Warren Bennis
The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you.
~Max DePree
People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. . . The leader
works in the open, and the boss in covert. The leader leads, and the
boss drives.
~Theodore Roosevelt
The real leader has no need to lead - he is content to point the way.
~Henry Miller
All of the great leaders have had one characteristic in common: it
was the willingness to confront unequivocally the major anxiety of their
people in their time. This, and not much else, is the essence of
leadership.
~John Kenneth Galbraith
The best example of leadership is leadership by example.
~Jerry McClain
Leadership should be more participative than directive, more enabling than performing.
~Mary D. Poole
The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves.
~Ray Kroc
To be able to lead others, a man must be willing to go forward alone.
~Harry Truman
