Attitudes to Live By
|
Abraham Lincoln had this to say about commitment:
"COMMITMENT is what transforms a promise into reality. It is the words that speak boldly of your intentions. And the actions which speak louder than the words.
It is making the time when there is none. Coming through time after time after time, year after year after year. Commitment is the stuff character is made of; the power to change the face of things. It is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism."

Parrot at Auction
One day David went to an auction. While he was there, he bid for a parrot. David really wanted this bird, so he got caught up and thoroughly involved in the bidding. He kept on bidding, but kept getting outbid, so he bid higher and higher and higher. Finally, after he had bid much more than he had intended, David won the bid; the parrot was his at last. As he was paying for the parrot, he said to the auctioneer, "I hope this parrot can talk. I would hate to have paid this much for it, only to find out that he can't talk!" "Don't worry." said the auctioneer, "He can talk. Who do you think kept bidding against you?"

From the desk of Bob: Will Spring ever get here? I am counting the days now. Only 21 to go. I am so excited! I have been thinking about some of my commitments lately.
Here are some things I am constantly committed to in my life:
Positive Relationships: - Family
- Clients and Customers
Health
- Physical
- Mental - Attitude
- Spiritual
I am reminded that nothing works well if these areas are broken and mangled.
What are your commitments? Keep pressing on!
Bob

Lessons from the School of Hard Knocks
The "school of hard knocks" gives no diploma-only
scars! We all have gotten off track at one time or another in life. I know that
personally I have messed up plenty of times, receiving much of my education
through hard knocks, and I've certainly got the scars to prove it. Can any of
you relate? Whacked many times on the side of the head so to speak. Ouch!
One thing I have learned for sure is that no one is going to
come along and clean up our messes for us. We must take our own personal
responsibility to get things cleaned up. I tell myself this when I realize that
I have gotten sidetracked, I must do whatever it takes to get back on the right
track again. I must take the high road, get on the right road, make effective
and right decisions and, through hindsight, learn whatever I can from these
powerful life lessons.
When in the pressure cooker of life, always remember:
+ It is in persevering through challenging and difficult
times that one's character is formed. The high heat and intense pressure is
what causes the impurities to rise to the surface so they can be drawn off, and
what is left is the good stuff!
+ With a little creativity and innovation, positive results
will come out of the negative.
+ There is no time like the present to rise to a higher
level. Right now we must strive like never before, persevering and pressing on
toward the goal.
+ Daily speak out this attitude: I will learn something
today that will help me to grow and improve. And then do it.
+ Stay committed as you labor to achieve your heart's
desire, determining to never let the nay-sayers cause you to have any doubts or
second thoughts.
+ It is okay to feel some pain. And when you do, remember
you will surely not die, and in fact you will get through it.
+ Once in awhile, you need to take responsibility and pick
yourself up by the bootstraps, dust yourself off, and force yourself to make
that one more phone call, write one more action plan, send that letter or pack
that last box. No one else is going to do it for you.
+ We should never be afraid of hard work. I am so glad that
my Dad taught me how to work hard and I am still working hard. I'd like to
think that I work smart, too.
+ When things appear to be too difficult we must refuse to
quit.
Over a lifetime we all will have numerous opportunities to
get off track and then get back on track. These are not the times to beat
yourself up, for if you spend too much time beating yourself up, you tend to
hesitate when it is time to move forward again-and that can be a real set back
when you allow that to happen.
Determine you will keep things moving, even if you've fallen
down. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and do your best to squeeze all the
good you can from your difficult life experiences. This will be like a fuel to
fire you up for greater motivations in the future, which will perpetuate a
number of positive results and successes in your life, as you continue to learn
the lessons the "school of hard knocks" provides.
