LEED Services
The EPA reports that buildings have a massive impact on our environment. They account for 68% of total electricty consumption & 12% of total water consumption in the USA. This is why LEED & Green building are so important in today's society. It's been shown that LEED & Green buildings cut energy costs by 30%, and water costs by 20%. Wow, what an amazing impact!

Recycling FYI:
Did you know that when plastic bottles are recycled their caps are often cut off and thrown away? This is because the caps are made to withstand a lot of pressure and it actually takes more time & energy for the recycling machinery to crush them. The caps then end up in landfills, oceans, rivers, and too often, in the mouths animals. This causes the animals to either choke or end up with bellies full of plastic, which eventually leads to death due to malnutrition. Next time you recycle any type of plastic bottle (from a water bottle to a shampoo bottle) please remember to take the caps off and toss them in the trash! (source: Shape Magazine) |

Founding Father Environmentalist

Some historians believe that the beginning of the environmental movement in the United States can be traced as far back as the 1700's, thanks to Benjamin Franklin. He dabbled in many things, including environmentalism.
In 1739, Franklin led a group of his neighbors to petition the Pennsylvania Assembly. The group asked the assembly to use its powers to remove tanneries (leather making factories) and stop waste dumping in Philadelphia. Franklin argued that the leather industry and waste dumping were resulting in lowered property values in the area, as well as causing poor smells, disease, and interfering with firefighters.
The petition passed even though the dumping did not stop. Nonetheless, Franklin's successful arguments established a precedent for coming centuries; the public has a right to health, happiness, and a clean environment.
Franklin might be known best for his inventions, but he was also America's first famous environmentalist! (source: environmental graffiti) |

Beijing Olympics to boost Chinese energy demand
LONDON (AFP) - The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will boost China's rampant demand for energy, threatening to push world oil prices beyond current record heights, according to industry analysts.
Asian economic powerhouse China, the world's second most voracious energy consumer after the United States, stages the Summer Olympics from August 8-24. Industry experts expect that China, which enjoys record-breaking economic growth, will need even more crude oil to provide the facilities, transportation and energy supplies that are required to power a successful Olympic Games.
Demand for kerosene/jet fuel was also expected to rocket as spectators and athletes fly in and out of the Chinese capital.
"The other aspect is increased demand for transport fuel -- jet fuel for getting people there (to Beijing), not just from the outside but also from within China," said BNP Paribas analyst Harry Tchilinguirian
According to the International Energy Agency, China is on course to become the world's biggest energy consuming nation shortly after 2010.

Did you know...
that promoting the green design of buildings could cut North American greenhouse-gas emissions more efficiently than any other available measure in today's market (as reported by the Montreal-based Commission for Environmental Cooperation [CEC]).
Green building has the ability to cut energy consumption up to 50% over conventional buildings; some of the most efficient buildings perform 70% better. Nonetheless, only a disappointing 2% of new non-residential buildings are green, despite the proven benefits.
The CEC provide suggestions on how to fast tract today's market into making green building a standard practice for new construction & renovations in North America:
- Achieve a vision for green building in North America by creating national, multi-stakeholder task forces
- Support the creation of a set of principles and planning tools
- Set clear targets including aggressive targets for carbon-neutral or zero-energy buildings
- Increase knowledge of green building through research and development, capacity building, and the use of labels and disclosures on green-building performance.
