From the Dean
 | | Fern Jennings |
This cooler weather and the shorter days put one in the mood of the coming fall and the return of busy church days. We musicians are preparing anthems for our choirs, tuning pianos and getting back into a practice routine. Your AGO officers and program committee have been busy over the summer working on the details of this year's programs, preparing our membership directory and processing your dues. I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our AGO picnic on September 16 at the Tornberg's. We'll be there with our veggie brats and the bocci set.
I spent last evening looking over the upcoming Governance changes for our national organization. These changes still have to be ratified by a vote of the general membership but have been approved by National Council. They involve streamlining National Council to have fewer members and changing the Region map to have seven instead of nine regions. Our region will stay the same but will be called "The Great Lakes Region" instead of Region V. Also you should know that the Grievance procedure is being discontinued. The process which involved many hours by committees who looked into such things mostly ended up pleasing no one and causing hard feelings toward the Guild. Discontinuing this process will free up committees to work on other areas of professional concerns. These changes are part of continuing conversations in many volunteer organizations about how to change and function better in the new technological era. I also see that the AGO has extended the "Grow the Guild" program. Chapters who participate are eligible for prizes and other percs! I am still looking for an individual who would like to work on encouraging membership gains in our Chapter. Cleveland has always been right there with the most active chapters in the country. Let's show some energy, people! Best to all you "Energetic" AGOers, Fern

If you haven't sent in your renewal form and check, please do so immediately to ensure that you are listed in the yearbook directory and to make sure that your American Organist magazine subscription isn't interrupted. Let me know if you need another copy of your membership renewal form.
