JOHN AND MARIANNE WEAVER TO BE HONORED WITH AGO RECITAL AND GALA BENEFIT RECEPTION IN PHILADELPHIA
Celebration of the Lifetime Achievements of John and Marianne Weaver Will Benefit the AGO Endowment Fund
The American Guild of Organists (AGO) will sponsor a Recital and Gala Benefit Reception honoring John and Marianne Weaver on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 3 p.m., at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, Pa. The recital will feature John and Marianne Weaver, joined by Diane Meredith Belcher, Chelsea Chen, Ken Cowan, and Alan Morrison. The gala benefit reception will follow. A pre-concert on-stage conversation with the performers will be moderated by Pipedreams Host Michael Barone beginning at 2:15 p.m. The gala is sponsored by the AGO National Council, Eileen Guenther, president, and the AGO Development Committee. All proceeds will benefit the AGO Endowment Fund in the Weavers' honor.Recital and Gala Benefit Reception Tickets are $100 ($75 tax deductible) and may be purchased online at www.agohq.org or by calling 212-870-2311, ext. 4308. The American Guild of Organists, the premier 501(c)(3) national professional association serving the organ and choral music fields, is actively recruiting for a Director of Information Technology and Digital Communications. This full-time staff position with benefits offers a unique opportunity for a hands-on professional employee who can help plan, lead, and participate as a significant contributor in the organization's ongoing information technology and digital communication programs. Activities involved in this position include:
*Ongoing design and maintenance of the AGO Web site;
*Oversight of the AGO's Association Management Software;
*Design and maintenance of digital communications, blogs, and social networking;
*Oversight of the development of interactive educational materials;
*Publication of portions of The American Organist (TAO) magazine online;
*Providing publicity, advice, and assistance to the AGO's 320 chapters on technology matters.
The AGO is looking to leverage Web technologies to create new levels of communication, interaction and awareness for its professional and student members, advertisers, sponsors, and the public domestically and internationally.
The Director of Information Technology and Digital Communications will work under the direction of the Executive Director of the AGO and collegially as a team member in close coordination with AGO staff, national committees, and leaders of the Guild's 320 chapters. The Director will establish project plans for technology investments, recommend processes and staff/organizational changes to support these investments, and support users in adopting new technologies and implementing new programs including the National Collection of Dues. Organ Dedication and recital. James Clouser CAGO, ChM, Dir. of Music/Organist at First Lutheran Church in Strongsville will be the recitalist. The organ is a 1973, 21-rank Schlicker which was changed from tracker to electric action by Holtkamp Organ Company, who also added other features. The organ was moved to Brecksville, OH from Sinking Spring, PA. A free-will offering will be taken with a reception to follow the concert. Curtis Brown will present his 2nd annual organ recital for Mid-Lent meditation. The program includes quieter organ works by J. S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, Camille Saint-Saens, Sigfrid Karg-Elert, Edward Elgar, Healey Willan, Helmut Walcha, Jean Langlais, Gordon Young and Dale Wood. A reception will follow the recital. Brown will perform in historic country church setting of New Life Episcopal. In addition to duties as organist/choirmaster at New Life, Brown, one of the senior organists in the region, is a teacher of piano and organ and studied at Oberlin and Baldwin-Wallace conservatories as well as with the faculty from the University of Akron in his high school years.
