Three items for this week:

First, an additional celebration.  Sandy Tittle, Director of Music Ministries at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the pipe organ at St. Martin's. Ten years ago, at the same time that the wonderful pipe organ was being moved and installed, Sandy was at the Cleveland Clinic undergoing a successful bone marrow transplant (autologous stem cell transplant) for non-Hodgkins lymphoma. She celebrates 15 years of music ministry at St. Martin's and more than 50 years of music ministry.

Second, one more week until the Cleveland Organ Weekend launches.  A tremendous amount of work is taking place for this weekend.  A Proclamation from the City of Cleveland has been issued proclaiming October 28-31 Cleveland Organ Weekend.  Ads will be in the Plain Dealer starting this Friday.  This is your chapter and your chapter money being spent for this program.

Third, on Saturday, October 29 twelve of our chapter members will present concerts and demonstrations throughout theCleveland region.  This is the year to come, connect, and commitment.  One way to connect is to show your support for a colleague by attending one or more of the Saturday events.  A complete listing is at www.agocleveland.org.

All best, Jim

Cleveland Organ Weekend poster is now available for download as a PDF from the chapter web site. Please help advertise this exciting weekend of organ music. The poster was designed to be printed on legal size paper. Natural and cream papers look quite rich with the color scheme, but white is also fine.   If you don't have legal paper at home, please print it at your church if possible.   If you print on letter size paper, please consider trimming the sides.   A supply of posters will be available at the October meeting in Oberlin or you may contact Don Jackson at donclef@aol.com.

AGO Exams
Congratulations are due to Chapter member James Clouser who was the only successful candidate in the entire country to pass the Choir Master Certification exam this year. Jim obtained his CAGO degree in the same year. Also taking the FAGO exam at our center and successfully passing both sections of that exam was Brian Wentzel of the Lorain Chapter. Brian was one of four successful candidates nationally for the Guild's highest degree. His bio and picture are in this month's TAO.

The Cleveland Chapter is the only place that advanced degrees are administered in the state of Ohio. Currently Fern Jennings is the Chapter Coordinator for Education and Exams. Local examiners this year were Anne Wilson, Barbara MacGregor and Ron Gould (Youngstown). Examiners are drawn from members who are Guild-certified. Thanks to Robert Moncrief and Fairmount Presbyterian Church for hosting the exams over three days in June.

Fern Jennings has recently been appointed Region V Coordinator for Education by our Regional Councilor Paul Barte. As coordinator she will serve as a resource person for information about the Certification Exams for Chapters and individuals within the region. Information about the Guild Certificates at various levels is available from her or the National website.

A Special Offer for Chapter Members

To all Cleveland Chapter members,
Timothy Brown
Timothy Brown

Quire Cleveland would like to invite all members of the Cleveland chapter of AGO to an Open Rehearsal with Timothy Brown on Wednesday, October 26, at the Church of the Covenant. The rehearsal is from 7 to 10 pm; an intermission with refreshments will be held around 8:30, to give the attendees a chance to visit with Tim Brown and each other.

Tim Brown directed the Clare College Choir at Cambridge University, after inheriting it from its founder John Rutter. He has just retired after 30 years and more than 50 recordings, which set the standard for mixed choral singing in repertoires from the 16th to the 20th centuries. Quire Cleveland is thrilled to bring him to Cleveland, to share his expertise and artistry with us. And we want to share that with the choral community, both through our concerts (Oct 29 at Trinity Cathedral and Oct 30 at Church of the Resurrection in Solon) and through this open rehearsal.

So that we'll know whom to expect, I'd appreciate an RSVP from those who can attend to info@quirecleveland.org.

Thanks so much!

Beverly Simmons, Executive Director

Quire Cleveland
