First Lutheran, 603 Washington Ave, Lorain, Brombaugh Organ Op. 4 has just been awarded an OHS Historic Organ Citation - it is the 5th youngest organ ever to receive such recognition, and the 9th in Ohio. William Porter, organist will give a recital there on Sunday, September 25.  Before the concert, Cleveland AGO members are invited to have lunch with Lorain AGO folks.   If interested, RSVP to info@lcago.org by 9/18. 2:00 - 3:00 ~ 2nd Lecture by Dr. Decourt: 
"Jehan Alain: His Musical and Creative Inspiration"
 
The two lectures will be given by Dr. Aurélie Decourt, the niece of Jehan Alain and the daughter of Marie-Claire Alain.  The lectures will take place in KING 127 (the building on the northwest corner of Professor and College Streets - across from the large arch in Tappan Square).

Concerts

The concert scheduled for September 9 at 7:30 at Waetjen Auditorium, Cleveland State University, has been cancelled.  Mark Heiskanen, the performer, will reschedule his concert at a later date.

 

Wednesdays: Music Near the Market at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2031 West 30th St., Cleveland. CONTACT: Florence Mustric: 216.321.1393. Featuring the world-famous von Beckerath organ. FREE concerts AT NOON on Wednesdays.

September 7 & 14: Florence Mustric, organist. "Feats for the Feet."

September 21: Robert Myers. "Away from the Console."

September 28: Double-digit Piano Duo Ronald Palko and Coren Estrin Mino

 

Sunday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m.:  Forest Hill Church, 3031 Monticello Blvd, Cleveland Heights., OH  44118.  Michael Ferri, violinist will play Bach's monumental Chaconne in D Minor as a memorial to the victims of the 9/11 tragedy. Brahms once wrote about this work:

 

"On one stave, for a small instrument, the man writes a whole world of the deepest thoughts and most powerful feelings. If I imagined that I could have created, even conceived the piece, I am quite certain that the excess of excitement and earth-shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind."

Michael Ferri
Michael Ferri

 Michael Ferri began his violin studies at the age of three and currently studies with Paul Kantor at the Cleveland Institute of Music.  He recently performed on NPR's celebrated series From the Top - featuring America's most outstanding young musicians.  A winner of many local competitions, Michael will perform with the Cleveland Philharmonic as winner of the 2011 Frieda Schumacher Young Artist Competition.  Michael has received scholarships to the Aspen Music Festival and School and was selected by the Women's Committee of the Cleveland Orchestra to be the Alice B. Weeks Scholarship Recipient for 2009.  Michael is home-schooled and his favorite subjects are foreign languages and history. In his free time he likes to listen to classical music, cook, read, and attend Cleveland Orchestra concerts.

 

Sunday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m.:  Christ Church, 3445 Warrensville Center Road, Shaker Heights, OH 44122.  Service of Remembrance.  The Fauré Requiem sung by the choirs of Christ Church and Trinity Cathedral with orchestra and organist Todd Wilson.  All proceeds will go to Facing History - Cleveland. 

 

More Concerts
Saturday, September 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.:  Grace Lutheran Church, 13001 Cedar Rd, Cleveland Heights.  Choral Music Workshop.  Jonathan Willcocks of London, England, will lead a choral music workshop.  Registration: $35, additional registrations from same organization: $25.  Student rate: $25 (with online registration and ID at the door).

Tuesday, September 20 at 12:00 p.m.:  St. Pauls Episcopal Church 317 East Liberty Street, Medina.  A Brown Bag Concert featuring art work and musical performance by some of our young people in Medina.   We are calling it A Celebration of Music and the Visual Arts.  Bring your own lunch or brown bag lunches are available for $5.00.  Just call the church office 24 hours prior to the concert at 330-725-4131.

 

Sunday, September 25 at 4:00 p.m.:  Church of the Ascension, 13216 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio.  The Byzantine Singers.
