Howdy!
Welcome to the September issue of News Briefs, the Texas A&M Energy Institute's e-newsletter. News Briefs is intended to keep you informed about all the good things going on in energy research at EI and Texas A&M University as well as state, national and international energy-related news that affects all of us.
Sadly, many of our friends and neighbors have been affected by wildfires this year. Texas AgriLife Extension is offering assistance to victims of the wildfires (and other natural disasters) through the Texas Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN). EDEN provides free, objective, research-based information to help with emergency and disaster preparation and recovery.
If you have any questions, comments or ideas for future issues, please contact Lisa Groce at 979.458.1644 or tamuenergy@pe.tamu.edu.
Thank you and Gig 'em!

Energy Club Kicks off Fall Semester |
The Texas A&M Energy Club began a very busy fall semester at the MSC Open House on September 3 with an information table staffed by club members. During the event, over 60 students joined the club's listserv. On September 7, the club officially kicked off the semester with a Callout Event held at the Zachry Engineering Center. The event featured fun, food, games and networking.

TAMU Researchers Study the Lignocellulosic Biofuel Supply Chain | |
Researchers with the Texas A&M Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering have teamed up to study the lignocellulosic biofuel supply chain. An Heung Jo, Wilbert E. Wilhelm and Stephen W. Searcy have formulated a strategic/tactical model, which deals with multiple time periods and multiple commodities, to address the supply chain design problem. The model considers all echelons from feedstock suppliers to biofuel customers.
Their paper includes a case study, which demonstrates application to a region in Central Texas, and a sensitivity analysis that identifies the most economically significant factors.
For more information on the project, contact Dr. Wilhelm at wilhelm@tamu.edu. |
