Heroes From Around the World Shine at The 7th Annual MY HERO International Film Festival
Winning films presented beautiful visions of our fragile home planet, individuals working to effect powerful change on local and global levels, and timeless wisdom passed down from generations. Elizabeth Daley, Dean of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, was honored with the Global Educator Award. She told the audience that "we need to use these skills and the power that's been put in our hands to help tell the stories that need to be told and inspire the actions that need to be taken." Watch the winning short films online now.
FOR EDUCATORS
FEATURED PROGRAM: Heroes vs. Celebrities
In October, 5th grade students at Mauro Sheridan School, a public technology magnet school in New Haven, CT, began discussing films from the MY HERO website and the notion of heroism. Their librarian created a special web page  with resources, calendars, hero project ideas and blogs. Last week, Educator Kimberly Kenna presented a lesson about Heroes vs Celebrities. Students chose a public hero and a product for endorsement as well as a charity to would benefit from the sales and designed an advertisement.

The students came up with some truly incredible ideas:

-Michelle Obama Health Bars, with proceeds going to fighting against childhood obesity

-Harriet Tubman GPS systems to benefit ending human trafficking

-Anne Frank Diaries ("They'll give you a voice"), with proceeds going to literacy programs

Have a project or lesson you'd like to share? Upload it to The Teacher's Room or email myhero@myheroproject.org
