A few tips for fall:

Lawns

Keep mower blades @ 4+ inches.

Mulch leaves into lawns. Continue until accumulations are too deep to disappear into turf.

Trees

Prune trees to enhance safety and health. but leave a few snags for wildlife.

Shrubs

Prune fall blooming shrubs immediately after blooms finish.

Bulbs

Finish planting spring flowering bulbs.

Meet the Interns
Mill River Park was lucky enough to host two bright Stamford high school interns this summer -  Nikita Gawande and Karen Escobar.  Nikita says, "I have a new sense of pride and accomplishment when I am in the car or walking with my friends and I'm able to name trees and plants as I walk by them." Karen adds, "I didn't realize how important Mill River was, not only to the local neighborhood but to the nearly 40 square miles that make up its watershed from New York to the Long Island Sound." Read their full reports.

Middle school intern Danny Silverstein returned for his second year; you will read more about him in a future issue.
