Consumers Can Avoid Problems by Watching for Warning Signs 

When it comes to your car's safety, brakes top the list of systems that need monitoring. However, many people are unaware of the signs that indicate a car's brakes may need maintenance or repair.

For routine maintenance, it's important to check the vehicle's braking system at least once a year. A thorough inspection should include brake lining wear, brake fluid level, rotor thickness, condition of hoses and brake lines, brake and dash warning lights, as well as taking the car for a test drive to detect other potential brake system problems.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Created Out of Scrap Metal

In 1955, Mercedes-Benz built two coupé versions of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR racing sports car.  Unfortunately these super cars of their time did not find their way into any customers' hands, but one fortunate individual was able to enjoy the attributes of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR: its designer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut.

Now, three German friends Armin Ciesielski, Peter Brakel and Walter Willer have decided to recreate one of the greatest cars ever scrapped by Mercedes - and they decided to build it out of scrap.

Vehicle Prep for Daylight Savings Time:  Inspect Your Vehicle's Lights so You're Not Left in the Dark

Proper vehicle lighting will be vital to safety when daylight-savings time ends on October 26. To prepare for fewer hours of daylight and the extra hours of darkness, the Car Care Council encourages motorists to take a few minutes to inspect their vehicles to ensure that all of the lights are working properly.

Something as simple as a burnt-out brake light could potentially have major consequences. Results of vehicle inspections during National Car Care Month found:

• 8 percent of vehicles inspected needed work on at least one of their turn signals.
• 6 percent of vehicles had problems with at least one of their brake lights.
• 5 percent of vehicles failed their side light inspection.
• 1 percent of vehicles failed the inspection for their headlights, parking lights, tail lights, backup lights and license plate lights.
