" Father Knows Best..." But when you think about it, the same can be said for the child of God. Our heavenly Father truly does know what's best for His children. In Matthew 7:9-11, Jesus compares the willingness on the part of our heavenly Father to care for His children with that of the desire of an earthly father to do the same. Jesus asks, "Which of you, if his son asks for bread will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him." I know you must be thinking, "What strong words on the part of Christ. I may not be the best parent, but I'm a far cry from being evil." Jesus' use of the word evil does not mean something that is sinister or of the devil; it means something or someone that is imperfect. The point that Jesus is making is that if we as imperfect earthly fathers strive to do what's best for our children, then how much more is our heavenly Father, who is the epitome of perfection, able to do what's best for His. As we pause to celebrate Father's Day this weekend, let's remember that the only perfect fathers are the ones played on television. But, as children of God, we have a Father that has the answers to all of our problems, and if we would but seek His direction, He will always direct us in a way that is perfect for our lives. Our Father truly does know what's best! This Sabbath we will be sharing the final installment in our series on the Ten Commandments as we focus on the prohibition that forbids coveting, with the message titled, The Heart of the Matter. We look forward to having you with us as the Sligo family gathers for the worship of our God and the sweet fellowship of our brothers and sisters. Charles A. Tapp Senior Pastor
