"Going Deeper" In case you haven't heard, the theme for our youth ministry is Sligo Underground...We go deeper. The name Sligo Underground has its roots in the fact that the youth room is in the basement of our church, and the "go deeper" part, is in reference to going deeper in relationship with God and His word. I don't know about you, but I think that's cool! As I visited last week I saw a sign that had been placed on the wall of the youth room, along with a question that each young person was asked to respond to by placing their answers on this sign that contained a picture of the face of Jesus. The question was simply, "Who is Jesus to you?" Of course, this is the same question that Jesus asked of His disciples in Matthew 16. Not only did He ask them whom they thought He was, but first he wanted to hear from them as to what those outside of His circle thought of Him. After a few very interesting responses, when asked, "But who do you think I am?" Peter gave the answer that has reverberated down through the centuries, "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." What a great answer from a man that didn't always know when it was best to speak or to remain silent. What about you? Who is Jesus to you? Is He a man that walked the earth over two thousand years ago, or is He someone that walks with you every day? Is He merely a character that you read about in an ancient book, or is He someone that you call friend? Well, regardless of what your answer may be, God challenges each of us to go "deeper." His word reminds us that we will find Him when we "search for Him with our whole hearts" (Jer. 29:13). In other words, we will find Him when you and I decide to "go deeper." Charles A. Tapp
