Greetings!
I am writing this edition of the eWeekend from of all places, a hospital room at Washington Adventist Hospital. NO, I'm not making a pastoral hospital visit, but I am here as a patient. To make a long story short, on Tuesday while meeting with the pastoral staff, I experienced some complications that caused me to be rushed to the ER, which eventually led me to be admitted and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. For a while things were pretty frightening, but as you now read this, I am discharged and finally back at home. ...(read more below)

To Your Health ...
I must say that although the experience itself was somewhat nerve wracking, the personnel here at WAH were simply the best! The medical care that they provided, along with their caring bedside manner, made my stay here not only bearable, but quite pleasant. I recognize that this is not the experience with everyone, but here at WAH, they recognize that people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
One of the reasons why I was able to receive great care is because I also have great health insurance. But as we have heard in the news lately, this is not the case for many in this country. There are those who either, because they have lost their jobs, as well as their health insurance or because they simply can't afford the care that many of us quite frankly just take for granted.
That is why this year's homecoming celebration is so important. Our theme this year is, To Your Health! As you know Dr. Benjamin Carson is scheduled to be our speaker for the 11:15 service, but what you may not be aware of is that in the afternoon we are taking the ministry of health to our Langley Park neighbors in the form of a Health Fair from 1-5 p.m. I am of the opinion that the fact that Jesus' healing miracles were performed on the Sabbath was not by accident, but I believe that Christ wanted to show the relationship between the Sabbath and the healing of one's mind and body. And if you remember, Jesus took a great deal of criticism, to say it mildly, from the religious establishment of His day for providing healing to what many considered to be non-life threatening situations. They just couldn't understand why He was willing to break the many man-made Sabbath prohibitions to bring physical healing to the lives of those imprisoned by suffering and disease. On many occasions Christ had to remind them that the Sabbath was made for man and not the other way around. In essence He wanted to show them that the Sabbath was a day to set men free. Now that's what I call a "high" Sabbath.

Project Top Grade
At the Church Business Meeting on Tuesday, May 3, Sligo Church voted for Sligo Adventist School (SAS) and Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church to partner with the Commonweal Foundation and the Potomac Conference in donating funds to update Sligo School's physical facilities and improve the overall educational experience. As a result of the generous gifts of over a million dollars from Commonweal Foundation and the Potomac Conference, funds will be made available for a new HVAC, fire alarm system, fire doors, new windows and other needed repairs, plus provide professional development for teachers and special tutoring for students. Our part is to provide scholarships for needy students. SAS and Sligo Church will be expected to raise $350,000 to be placed in a special scholarship fund for students who otherwise would not be able to afford a Christian education.
We invite you to be a part of this investment in our children by placing your funds in the Giving Envelope, and marking it Project "TOP GRADE," which stands for Project Takoma Park: Guaranteeing Revitalized Adventist Education. For more information about this project, please call Principal Larry Rich at (240) 464-7054. Or give online here.
