Greetings!
Several months ago we began a series of messages that focused on unfolding our mission here at Sligo - making passionate disciples of Jesus. The first installment focused on making disciples through our worship of God. Here we learned that our worship transcends what takes place as we meet to honor God in the sanctuary once a week, but it involves our daily walk of obedience. It's not merely about the songs we sing or don't sing and it's not about whether our liturgy is traditional or contemporary. Our primary focus as believers should be "The Walk of Our Worship."

Inside Out... We then moved from making disciples through our worship of God to making disciples through our nurture of one another. Here we discovered that as we enter into a relationship with Christ, we are automatically part of the family of God. And because we are all part of the same family, we must do what members of any good family would, and that is to look out for one another. No longer is the focus merely about me and what I need, but now my concern shifts to the needs of the other members of my family. No longer should the focus be on my independence, but now I must become keenly aware of my interdependence. Why? Because that's the Nature of Our Nurture! Now we have reached the final leg of our series, focusing on our mission of making passionate disciples. I have titled this segment, Reaching the World from the Inside Out. In my opinion, this is where the rubber truly meets the road. This is where our work as disciples of Christ to carry out the Great Commission to go into all the world really begins to unfold. But what does this really mean for Sligo? Are we really prepared to move forward with this mission? This Sabbath, I will begin to seek to answer these and other questions with my message entitled, "The Anatomy of Discipleship." Senior Pastor | |
An Evening with Jaime Jorge
Make plans now to be at Sligo Church on May 7 at 7pm to hear the truly inspirational music of world-renowned violinist, Jaime Jorge in concert.
Jaime was born in communist Cuba and began playing the violin at the age of 5. He had several opportunities to study abroad, including Moscow with some of the greatest musicians of our time--but only if his family would renounce their faith in God. They refused.
By the time he was 10, they miraculously had the chance to leave the country and chose to come to the U.S. where he received a Christian education and violin lessons with eminent violinist Cyrus Forough. But, what Jaime really wanted to do was to be a missionary doctor, and in 1994 was accepted into the University of Illinois School of Medicine. However, 2 years later, he left medical school and a promising medical career to devote himself full-time to music ministry.
Since, he has traveled all over the globe sharing God's love through music and has recorded 16 albums.
We welcome Jaime to our church and we hope you can plan to be there, too! |
