Mission Impossible?

Greetings!
Normally when we send out the eWeekend it contains a devotional thought, and I guess in a way, today's edition isn't too much of a departure from that format. As we have been mentioning over the past several weeks, April 16 and 23 have been designated as Ministry Budget Booster Sabbaths. In essence, these two Sabbaths have been set aside to place a special emphasis on increased giving toward the local budget to support Sligo's ministries. I believe too often an unhealthy emphasis is placed on taking care of the facilities and all the expenses that go along with that, while forgetting that the only reason these structures exist is so that we can carry out our true mission of making passionate disciples for Jesus Christ.

Mission Impossible... The other day I dusted off the book Counsels on Stewardship by Ellen White and began reading the wonderful counsel that is given to our church in the area of finances and the role they should play in our lives. As it relates to our responsibility and willingness to give to the cause of God she says; "Our people are not to wait for more appeals, but are to lay hold of the work, making those things which appear impossibilities, possibilities. Let each one ask himself, has not the Lord entrusted me with means for the advancement of His cause? Let us be honest with the Lord. All the blessings that we enjoy come from Him; and if He has entrusted us with the talent of means, that we may help to do His work, shall we hold back?" Can you imagine how much we could accomplish if each of us took this to heart and would faithfully give to the ministry of Sligo church? If each of us would just do our part, then the burden would not have to be placed on a few. I challenge you to remember these two appeals to boost Sligo's local budget, so that what now may appear to be an impossibility, may become a reality. Senior Pastor | |
