Living by Faith

sligo sanctuary
Greetings!

Just a few days ago I had the opportunity to view an old episode of the television program Touched by an Angel. In case you are not familiar with the show, it is about three angels that have been given the task of providing guidance and messages from God to various people that have reached a crossroads in their lives and are facing a large or tough decision. The angels' job, who by the way have taken on human form,  is not to solve problems for them, but rather to help them to see that there is a better way; God's way.

Living by Faith...

The particular episode that I watched was about a man that had been kidnapped and hidden in the trunk of a car in a wooded area. Thinking that he might be facing imminent death, he prayed that God would come to his aid and provide him a way of escape. But such was not the case. Now, don't get me wrong. God did dispatch an angel, not to provide the man a way of escape as he had hoped, but simply to grant him the assurance that God was right there by his side. The angel's job was to help him to place his confidence not in his feelings, but rather in the fact that God was right where he needed to be.

Many times in life we wish that God would just show up, or at least dispatch an angel to rescue us from the circumstances that we find ourselves in. And because we don't see any visible evidence of His presence, many times we feel as though we have been left to handle things on our own. And herein lies the problem. We are living our lives by our feelings instead of living our lives by our faith. God's word is clear that the believer's journey is not to be one that is guided by his feelings, but one that is to be guided by his faith in the word of God. And be assured that God's word is clear, "He will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6)

Revival & Reformation

There has been a great deal of discussion on the topic of revival and reformation of late. But do we really understand what true revival is and do we know the role that reformation is to play in our lives? We pray that God's word will help us come to a clearer understanding through Pastor Tapp's message for this Sabbath, Revival and Reformation: Who Needs It?
