Greetings!

I shared with you a few weeks ago this obsession that I have with church signs. Well, it's not really with the signs themselves but the interesting quotes that are placed on them from time to time.

BULLETIN

for February 12, 2011

True or False?

It was just earlier this week that another sign caught my attention that read, "The heaviest load that you can ever carry around is a grudge."

Now that is definitely the truth. How many times do we allow ourselves to become burdened down by holding on to bad feelings that we have toward someone? How much extra weight have we carried around on the inside simply because we have refused to forgive someone for the hurt that they might have caused us?

Well the truth is, and medical science backs this up, that the more we allow ourselves to harbor old hurts and grudges, the more damage we cause ourselves in the end. We damage our health by refusing to let go of the hurt while the person to which our hatred has been directed, many times, is not even aware of  our feelings.  Famed civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a speech given in 1963 titled, Strength to Love said:

"Like an unchecked cancer, hate corrodes the personality and eats away its vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to confuse the true with the false and the false with the true."

So then what are we to do we this dreaded disease that is eating so many of us alive today, including those who claim to be disciples of Jesus Christ? May I suggest to you the dual antidotes of love and forgiveness? These two powerful agents have a way of not only freeing the one who has been imprisoned by their hatred of another, but it also has a redeeming quality that is able to soften the heart of the perpetrator.

May God bless us richly as we prepare our hearts and our lives to worship him in spirit and in truth.

Sermon Title

The Nature of Our Nurture

This Sabbath we continue our series on the Nature of Our Nurture with a message titled, The Rules of Love. In life where everything has rules are there any rules for this thing called love? And if there are, what are they; and do they apply to some and not others? Based on 1 Corinthians 13:1-13.

New media room helps reach more lives

Each Sabbath, a team of unseen dedicated volunteers provide a helpful service during our worship. It's something that's easy not to notice (and in some ways, we hope you don't!) when lyrics to hymns are projected on the screens and camera shots give a better glimpse of the platform for those in the balcony. But more than that, Sligo's A/V team is reaching beyond the church walls to hundreds more around the world.  Sligo WebTV is catching on--streaming video of our worship services wherever there is an Internet connection. People are tuning in from all over in places such as Brazil, The Virgin Islands, The United Kingdom, India, Japan and more.

And recently, the team got a new place of their own. If you've ever sat in the balcony, you used to see the computer monitors out behind the audio booth, perhaps, blocking your sight. During the last two months the team has moved into a small room under the balcony steps, out of sight. As part of the transition, money was allocated to purchase a new switcher (the previous one went up) and a brand new state-of-the-art system "Broadcast Pix" was installed. This provides the capability of inserting captions, the lyrics, graphics and much more.

So, if you're ever home, or you want to let a friend or relative not in the area have the chance to experience Sligo's worship one Sabbath, let them know to tune in. Just visit www.sligochurch.org/sligo-webtv. You can also view archived services, and other helpful content.

And let us know if you'd like to make sure this ministry continues to grow through your support. Just click 'Learn more about giving' on the left. When you give a gift, make sure you mark it for 'Media Ministries.'

sheet musicColumbia Union Choral Festival to bring 200+ students to Sligo

This Sabbath, the sanctuary will be filled with the voices of academy students from all over the Columbia Union for the bi-annual Choral Festival, under the direction of Dr. James Bingham, chair of the Department of Music at Washington Adventist University. We hope you plan to be there to experience the joyous sounds our young people will share.
