Alumni Masthead
Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law CenterMay 2012
Dear Fellow NSU Law Alumni,

Our biggest Alumni event this year (so far) occurred last week ---- and what an event it was! I had the pleasure of going to the United States Supreme Court with 26 alumni to be sworn in to practice before the Court. Read more about it below.

At the Law Center, finals are in full swing and graudation is around the corner. On May 12, the Law Center graduation will take place at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. Once the celebrations end, preparing for the Bar exam begins. We wish them all good luck.

If you would like to be considered for an announcement on our website about an accomplishment, a recently published article, or seminar at which you are presenting, please notify me by e-mail.

Consider participating as a speaker at an Alumni seminar, CLE, or lunch & learn event, or volunteer to organize an Alumni event by contacting me at [email protected] or (954) 262-6303. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

The United States Supreme Court Admits 26 Alumni to the Bar

SCOTUS

On April 23 and 24, Dean Athornia Steele, NSU President George L. Hanbury, II, Ph.D, and Professor Bruce Rogow joined 26 Nova alumni as they stood before the highest court in the land to take their oath of attorney. Bruce Rogow made the motion on our behalf.  We were also permitted to watch oral argument and had a front row seat just behind counsel table!  Monday evening, NSU Alumni and NSU Law Alumni Associations hosted a joint reception for the attorneys and DC area alumni from all NSU disciplines. Visiting Professor and ABC/CNN news correspondent, Tim O'Brien joined Bruce Rogow for a discussion about how the Supreme Court affects our daily lives. This very special event has been a biennial trip since 2008. We plan to do this again in 2014.  If you are interested in joining us, send an e-mail to [email protected] and I will put you on the waiting list!  Alumni from across the US and around the world are eligible, provided they meet the requirements established by the Court.

NSU Class of 2012 are Pro Bono Stars!

Pro Bono

Congratulations to the members of the Class of 2012 who participated in the Pro Bono Honor Program and volunteered over 22,000 hours of pro bono legal work while in law school. This is an impressive volunteer effort on the part of 115 students and its impact on the community is beyond measure. Additionaly, 20 law students earned summer fellowships for 2012. Congratutlations to Sharon Booth, Esq., Director of Public Interest Law at the Law Center, for her work on this project.

Become a Mentor
Mentoring Picnic 2012
We are always looking for Mentors for our law students.  The opportunity to work with a law student and help guide them as they transition from student to attorney is very rewarding for the Mentor and the Mentee.  Nova Law Alumni are especially encouraged to become Mentors because of the shared experience between Mentor and Mentee as having both attended law school here. You can mentor a law student no matter where you live thanks to modern technology such as Skype. If you would like to become a Mentor, please contact Assistant Dean
Robert Levine at (954) 262-6227.
