CEDIA Expo 2010 Recap
|
I missed last year's CEDIA (bad back) and because of all the
negativity I had heard about the 09 show my expectations were very, very low. I
was pleasantly surprised how smoothly the show went, the number of attendees,
and the quality of manufacturers. I
sincerely believe that this is the most valuable event available to us as an
industry, providing educational opportunities, new products, and the ability to
learn from our peers.
I came home with 2 new lines:
The Avielo Booth had a
dedicated theater with their new Optix 2:35 Super Wide and their tweaked Helios
(Studio Edition) which was easily the best looking demo at the show; as was PHC (now PAT) the best sounding. Sharing the
booth's area was TK Living with Theo holding
court, Cineak, and PS Audio. Needless to say I spent a lot of time
there. The Theo fabric was very well
received because there is nothing like it in design, quality, and acoustic
transparency. His chairs, carpets, and accessories are also a hit.
From my perspective the "coolest" product at the show was the Autonomic Controls "Mirage" server providing "cloud" syncing and serving of media and 2-way modules for the main control systems (and has 2 way communication with Apple TV). I will have a sample within a few weeks.
I had the opportunity to walk the show with Jason Liao and Nathan Plain of Oppo
Digital. They loved what they saw but
there is still a challenge fitting dealer profit in the Oppo "Direct to User" model. It works very well for them.
