Greetings!
This summer continues to be busy for both the SBAC and our growing membership. The SBAC has been invited to testify at a joint Illinois House-Senate Revenue Committee hearing tomorrow. At that hearing, legislators will review the Illinois business and corporate tax structure. The Illinois corporate income tax has been a hot topic in Illinois. Indeed, many SBAC members have legitimate concerns regarding whether the tax code treats small and mid-market businesses fairly. There are also concerns about the way the code is implemented.
Small and mid-size businesses are responsible for the majority of this nation's job growth. The largest corporations speak loudly on these issues. It is time we had a voice as well. Your input is important. Please consider completing some, or all, of these questions so that we can better explain how the tax code is impacting your business. Please contact Blanca Campos at blanca@sbacil.org for additional information about the hearing.

Health Insurance Update
The SBAC remains more committed than ever to bringing affordable health insurance to our members, business owners and other professionals throughout the state. We are attacking this systemic problem from every conceivable angle. One thing is clear, we are going to have to fight for affordable health insurance. Small and mid-market businesses will need to lead this charge.
The SBAC will continue to collect census forms in an effort to establish a health insurance pool for our members. At the same time, the SBAC has begun forming coalitions with other business groups and chambers of commerce in a concerted effort to move state legislation that would allow the creation of health insurance co-ops. Finally, the SBAC is forming an "SBAC Health Insurance Exchange" for our members. We will be asking the nearly 20 SBAC members playing in the health insurance space to offer their best products and discounts to the exchange. For some businesses, a PEO may be the answer. Others may opt for insurance products heavily focused on wellness and accountability. The key to this exchange will be education and transparency.
Work on this exchange has already started. It will be hosted on the SBAC website.
