SBAC Bill Heads To The Governor
You have likely heard politicians talk about small business being the backbone of society. Between rising health insurance costs, the inability to obtain credit and the other challenges facing small business, clearly some calcium is badly needed.
The SBAC drafted legislation that will, for the first time, set a statewide goal of awarding 10% of all state contracts to small businesses. This legislation applies to all state agencies. The heads of these agencies will submit plans and annual reports to ensure compliance and progress towards this goal. This bill passed the Senate unanimously and heads to the Governor's office. This bill was also featured recently in Crain's. To view the article click here.
As this legislative session closed, the Illinois General Assembly has also adopted a resolution recognizing the SBAC's work on behalf of small business this past year. We would like to thank Representative La Shawn K. Ford for introducing this resolution. We are very encouraged by the progress the SBAC has made this past year in Springfield. This is just the beginning as there is still an incredible amount of work to be done.
