Greetings!  

 

Our mission to provide SBAC members with tangible benefits continues through the formation of our partnership with UPS. We are excited to announce that SBAC members will now be able to save up to 28% on shipping with UPS. We will begin the process of enrolling SBAC members in the program immediately. Enrollment will be easy and the savings substantial.

We will be holding our second legislative roundtable with State Representatives Karen May and Daniel Biss on February 11th. Please also join us for our Happy Hour at the Mid-America Club on February 17th. We are looking forward to the many events, breakfasts, cocktail hours and educational forums scheduled over the next several months. The SBAC is also excited to announce the formation of our auxiliary board and the mentoring program this fantastic group of young professionals will be implementing for the organization.

The Mid-America Club is Chicago's premier business club offering unparallel social and professional networking opportunities, five star cuisine and a 360-degree view of the city from the 80th floor of the AON Center.  Enjoy complimentary beer and wine, as well as hand selected hors d'oeuvres, from The Mid-America Club's very own Executive Chef, Michael Pivoney.

SBAC Happy Hours provide our members, and their guests, an opportunity to meet, mingle and talk business. If you have not attended an after-hour event with us, we are confident you will find enjoy the Mid-America Club and meet many business owners and other professionals.

Legislative Forum With Representatives Karen May And Daniel Biss

Carol Sente rountableWe are excited to talk with State Representatives Karen May and Daniel Biss this coming Friday about the challenges facing small and medium size businesses.

 

These meetings provide members of the SBAC, and the community, an opportunity to speak with their elected officials and talk about ways to improve the environment for small/medium size businesses.

Friday's forum will be held at the the Glenview Police Station at 2500 East Lake Ave from 3:30-5:30pm.

 

The SBAC would like to thank Illinois State Representative Carol Sente for holding her small business forum this past week and for speaking with members of the SBAC and community about what we can do to help small business grow.

SBAC First Monthly Bowling Night Starting February 22nd

SBAC is excited to announce we will be holding a monthly Bowling Night at The Alley in Highwood!   Come join SBAC members at this great location for a night of bowling, networking and cocktails.  There will be great drink specials and $5.00 games of bowling.  The best bowler each month will take possession of the SBAC trophy until we meet again.

SBAC Names Auxiliary Board   

President - Patrick McGinnis has worked for several years in the Chicago legal field and is currently a Paralegal for the Wirbicki Law Group. Patrick hopes to promote the growth of the Small Business Advocacy Council with younger professionals and establish strong relationships between them and our more experienced members. He will be attending law school in the fall.

 

Vice President, Events - Ben Smith is the Director of Business Development at Business Appraisal Services, LLC in Naperville. As the "senior" member of the Auxillary Board, Ben is interested in bridging the gap between the SBAC's young professionals and the rest of the SBAC. BAS performs independent valuations of shares of stock and other equities in all types of business entities (C-corporations, S-corporations, private partnerships & LLCs, public and private companies, etc). BAS also provides financial consulting services regarding the formation of Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs), and provides on-going valuations services related to ESOPs.

 

Vice President, Membership - Brian Raterman is an Attorney with Solutions First Legal Services, P.C., an Illinois law and mediation firm specializing in divorce, family and small or closely held business legal matters. Solutions First, P.C. assists its divorce and business clients explore the law creatively, integrating mediation techniques when appropriate, and emphasizing aggressive courtroom strategies when they best serve the client's needs. Brian is both excited and honored to be a member of the Auxiliary Board. He believes he can serve as a liaison between young professional members and the professionally established membership of the SBAC. As a member of this Board, Brian will work diligently to market the SBAC to young professionals throughout Chicagoland with the goal of growing its membership.  

 

Treasurer - Kevin Keeley is a new attorney working per diem for law firms in the Chicago-land area. Kevin focuses his practice on Civil Litigation. He also volunteers his time for Chicago Volunteer Legal Services and Equip for Equality. Kevin is excited to serve as Treasurer on the newly established Auxiliary Board. He looks forward to building on the SBAC's past success by reaching out to young professionals and increasing the resources of the group.

 

Secretary - TyJuan is the President of Cratic & Associates, a public relations firm based in Chicago. Cratic & Associates works to expand political campaign, non-profit and private company's influence and impact in their market by creating and implementing a successful and compelling media strategy. In 2010, TyJuan served as senior staff on winning congressional campaigns in Ohio and Georgia and with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Cratic & Associates is currently involved in the 2011 Chicago and suburban municipal elections. As an executive Auxiliary Board member, he will help bring developing young entrepreneurs into the SBAC family.
