We hope you are enjoying the summer and are ready for some great SBAC events. Here is your weekly Small Business Advocacy Council update.
Happy Hour At The Jean Albano Art Gallery
 
Jim Wade CurtainOur next Happy Hour is scheduled for August 26th at the Jean Albano Art Gallery in downtown Chicago.  Enjoy steak sandwiches & drinks from Sullivan's, along with other refreshments at this fantastic gallery.

As always, meet and talk shop with a variety of business owners and other professionals from throughout the Chicagoland area.  We are expecting a  great crowd for this special event that will mix business and art, with food and drinks.
 
The Jean Albano Art Gallery is located at 215 West Superior in Chicago.  Our Happy Hour will begin at 6:00pm.

Lending and Venture Capital Forum
 
We are all aware that it has become increasingly difficult to obtain credit. Indeed, hard-working folks are losing jobs because the credit available to business is being slashed.

Rep Candidate Forum DoldThere are alternative methods of financing available to start-ups and established businesses looking to grow. The SBAC has scheduled a forum of experienced professionals who will highlight some of these opportunities.

The forum is scheduled for September 15th from 8-10am in Chicago at 20 South Clark. Doors open at 7:15am and a light breakfast will be provided.
 
Our presenters help business owners obtain financing and raise revenue every day. Our forum will include:

First policy Meeting 1David Frank: David owns SomerCor 504, Inc., which administers a loan program for the U.S. Small Business Administration which allows borrowers to access capital for the purchase of owner-occupied commercial real estate or equipment. Business owners can use this loan program to finance up to 90% of eligible costs. Interest rates on our loans are fixed for 20 years and significantly lower than conventional interest rates.

Jason Jacobsohn: Jason is with AEGIS Professional Services and works with small business owners to raise venture capital. Jason will discuss the various methods for raising capital from angel investors. He will provide insight on the factors that investors consider before contributing capital and will provide valuable advice on putting together a good presentation. Jason is also a member of the SBAC and a valuable resource for our members.

Dan Seals Candidate ForumMark Wimmer: Mark is a Financial Advisor with UBS. Mark will talk about the various strategies that can help small business owners unleash the borrowing power of their portfolios. Mark is an SBAC member and has played a critical role in our development.

Joseph McKeown: Joseph  is the North East Region Senior Account Manager with the Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DCEO), the lead state agency responsible for improving Illinois' competitiveness in the global economy. Guided by an innovative regional approach, DCEO administers a wide range of economic and workforce development programs, services and initiatives designed to create and retain high quality jobs in Illinois.





Small Business Advocacy Blog Launches

Blog ClipartThe SBAC is proud to announce the launching of the Small Business Advocacy Blog!

The Small Business Advocacy Blog has been established to provide an array of resources to business owners. The Blog will provide informative, concise and useful posts on many different aspects of owning and operating a business.

Our newly enhanced blog will be edited by SBAC member Jerry Kalish, President of National Benefit Services, Inc. Jerry has been blogging for 5 years - a lifetime in Internet years - at The Retirement Plan Blog.

In addition to Jerry, the Small Business Advocacy Blog will have writers from throughout the country contributing and giving readers the tools they need to be successful in these difficult financial times.
