Donations To SBAC

Greetings!

We hope that you had a great weekend.  We would like to highlight our "Opportunities Page" in this week's newsletter.
Opportunities Page

The SBAC's "Opportunities Page" is being created to encourage our members to conduct business together.  We are strongly committed to the success of our members and will continue to implement programs to help SBAC businesses thrive in this difficult economy.

DeMarco office photoEvery SBAC member will be able to directly communicate with each other, and the public, on our "Opportunities Page."  Each member will be given a log-in for this interactive page and be able to make one posting per day. Our members will then be able to communicate offline about opportunities.

SBAC members will be able to post:
  • Special promotions or sales
  • Information about their products or services
  • Requests for goods, services or information
  • Requests to have coffee or lunch with fellow members
  • Resumes
  • Recommendations about the services offered by our members
  • Information about seminars or special events
While the public will be able to view the "Opportunities Page" (this will be encouraged), only members will be able to post.  We will also post trivia about other members on the page and award gift certificates to the first member who is able to  answer the question.

First policy Meeting 1Our staff will monitor the "Opportunities Page" and will be available to help with any logistical issues. We envision an interactive community where SBAC members are connecting through the website.

Announcements

CBF logoInvesting in Justice
The Chicago Bar Foundation's 2010 Investing in Justice Campaign raised a record $1.1 million for legal aid services.  The CBF thanks the thousands of Chicago lawyers, law firms, corporate law departments, and other law-related businesses for their efforts.  Because of this generosity, the CBF was able to award a total of $1.12 million in grants to 36 Chicago area pro bono and legal aid organizations. These grants fund a continuum of services to thousands of people in the Chicago area. These grants help people in critical need of legal assistance. They assist in a wide range of areas including web-based information and resources, legal aid hotlines, advice desks, legal clinics, extended representation and significant impact litigation.

The Investing in Justice Campaign has been included in this newsletter because so many of our members are also active with the CBF.  For further details about the CBF Investing in Justice Campaign and its impact in our community, Click Here.

SBAC Blog

  • WSJ logoOur SBAC blog highlights a Senate proposal which will cause more of the profits earned by lawyers, accountants, and other professionals, to be subject to the 2.9% Medicare tax.  In a Wall Street Journal article, author Martin Vaughan discusses this provision and the likely impact it may have on small and medium size business owners.  To view the article go to: Small Firms Chafe At Senate Payroll Tax Proposal
