DECK THE HALLS...

As Christmas approaches, it is easy to get caught up in the rush of the season. Here are a few ideas to make the holiday time special:

1.  Enjoy time with your family - It is not the gifts, it is the time spent together that matters.
2.   Attend church services - After all, Jesus is the "reason for the season".
3.  Go to a holiday program - There are some wonderful free re-enactments, dramas, and musicals available.
4.  See the lights - Take the family out for a drive and look at Christmas lights.
5.  Donate some time at a local shelter - Helping others will warm your spirit.
6.  Give to your favorite charity - If you don't have one, spend time with the family finding the one that you would like to support.
7.  Read Christmas stories to your children (and grandchildren!).
8.  Bake some cookies - Share them with your neighbors!

I hope each of you has a wonderful holiday.  Merry Christmas!!  Kirk

PLANNING FOR YOUR FUTURE....

"THE FIVE COMPONENTS TO A
BASIC ESTATE
PLAN"

Family is the single most important commodity we have.  A well constructed estate plan is something that is a good idea to consider and create no matter what your age or your position in life....it is to care for your family.

The following is a list of the five basic components of an estate plan:

1.  Will:  A legal declaration by which a person names one or more persons to manage his or her estate and sets forth the "plan" for transferring the person's property following death.

2.  Living Will:  A written document that states a person's wishes regarding life-support or other medical treatment in certain circumstances.  This is something that is important while the person is alive but unable to make decisions.

3.  Power of Attorney:  A written authorization to an agent to perform specified acts on behalf of his principal.  A power of attorney is only effective while the person is alive.

4.  Health Care Surrogate:  An adult who is appointed to make health care decisions for another when the person is unable to make such decisions for himself or herself.

5.  HIPAA Designation:  A written document that allows certain designated individuals to have access to medical records.

Of course there are many other more complicated documents that are used in estate plans.  You should seek legal advice in any estate planning.  None of us can control how much time we have left, but we can outline how matters are to be handled and make sure that loved ones are cared for when the time comes.
