Truth in organics...
I'm a big fan of The Cornucopia Institute, a nonprofit whose mission is to support sustainable, organic, and small-scale farming through education, research and investigation. Focusing specifically on producers using the USDA Certified Organic label, they let us know the good, the bad, and the ugly. They've done this through numerous reports and "scorecards"--on dairy products, eggs, cereals, and most recently with a shopping guide of certified organic products for those wishing to avoid products containing the seaweed-based thickener, carrageenan, which is linked in some people to gastrointestinal inflammation and colon cancer.
And their " org chart" showing who owns well known organic producers is quite instructive. I'm not particularly doctrinaire about organics, nor am I suggesting that you ought to be--but I do like knowing who I'm doing business with. --Robin
