Over easy? Hard boiled? Three dozen at a time? A dozen per week? At the risk of ripping off an old fast food ad: Have it your way! Beginning this week, you can either order eggs by the dozen (or two or three) from our online store when you need them, or receive a standing order of a dozen per week by ordering an Egg Share. The Egg Share--like our CSA shares--can be joined in progress on a prorated basis. Click here for information on adding an Egg Share.
Under the Prep & Preserve section on our website, we've added some information about eggs: storage, freezing, a fool-proof method for hard-boiling, and some interesting uses for egg shells. Let us know if you have any other fun facts about eggs!
Welcome!
Week 13 of our 2012 CSA marks the beginning of our 12-week Mid Season . . . the first delivery for some of you and a continuation for the rest. It's a good opportunity for us to ask you to review the Logistics, and to point out a few reminders:
* If your circumstances permit, please leave out a cooler with an ice pack (or even a baggie with a few ice cubes) to receive your produce if you won't be available
We're coming, we're coming!
to receive it directly. You know how you feel in this heat wave. 'Nuff said!
* If you need to skip a week due to vacation, have your box delivered to a friend one week, or would like to change your box size, please email us.
* If you're not sure which size you signed up for during the Mid Season or need to make a change based on what you were receiving during the previous 12 weeks, email us ASAP so we can adjust the numbers for this coming week.
* Please be patient with our drivers this week as they familiarize themselves with a few new deliveries and slightly adjusted routes. Some deliveries previously on the early end of a route may be later . . . and vice versa. If you have any questions or concerns about your delivery, don't hesitate to email or call Robin (708-370-8017).
A note about Sneak Peeks
As the note on tomatoes in the Sneak Peek list suggests, they may not make it yet into all boxes. They're just coming on, and there will be plenty to go around for many weeks to come. The same asterisk could apply to everything on the list--and by the same token you might see something next week that's not on the list at all. While we hope that our weekly Sneak Peeks will give you a head start on your weekend shopping at your favorite farmers market, it is just our best guess on a Friday about what will be ready to harvest and pack the following week. See this note from a recent newsletter for more about Sneak Peeks.
Updated crop calendar
When Kurt and Chris put together the original crop calendar in January, it was to order seeds and plan the season. Mother Nature has a way of changing the best-laid plans. Kurt has updated the crop calendar recently to more accurately reflect what's happening on the ground as the season unfolds.
