Dear Fellow Seeker:

The month of March is that interim moment when the world begins to recover from the demands of winter, and we eagerly anticipate the first signs of spring.  We're anxious to shed our heavy layers and move unhindered through our days.  It's a time of transition; and like all times of change, even happy ones, it can bring uncertainty along with joy.  The old ways don't seem to quite fit any longer, and though new pathways beckon, we aren't sure where they will really lead, or what lessons await us.  We feel restless and a little off-balance.  Isn't that what spring fever is like?

Hello, and welcome to Enrichment Inc.'s fourth seasonal newsletter.  My

name is Randi Tomchin, and in this issue we're exploring the power of love. We'll be looking at how we can heal and ground ourselves through love of the earth and animals, and through deepening human connections.

Also in this issue, we're launching "Spoken From the Heart", a new regular feature.  This grew out of your responses to my Nana's story in the fall newsletter, and to our special Thanksgiving piece published last November ("What Does Family Mean?")  When I created Opening Minds, Awakening Hearts News, I never intended to share my own personal journey.  But from the positive feedback I've received since telling those stories, I've learned that by offering accounts of our own individual quests, we help each other see more of the many ways Spirit works with us to rediscover our true selves.  And as Ben Sweetland so beautifully puts it, "We cannot hold a torch to light another's path without brightening our own."

Wishing each of you the bright rays of new insight as we welcome in the spring.

Love, light and gratitude,

Randi

Recovering Through Love

Five years ago Judy Barnes moved to Wild Horse Mesa in Southern Colorado to live with, and photograph, the wild horses there.  She arrived after surviving a bout with breast cancer, never guessing how her love of these animals would change he life.

The weekend she moved in, a young stallion arrived with an injured mare. Judy named the mare "Boots".  Boots was a mess.  She had a large abscess on her chest and a broken pelvis. She could barely walk, dragging her rear hooves. Judy debated whether to help her or let nature take its course.  But the mare stole this loving woman's heart, and they are still together.

The band Boots arrived with has long gone, but over the years she has joined others.  She is now with her fourth stallion, Napoleon, along with three other mares and five juveniles who range in age from three months to a year and a half old. Boots has managed to have two colts of her own in her eight years.  Her tiny 2010 colt, Milagro, put a heavy strain on her body, though he weighed only forty pounds at birth.  Judy feared she'd lose both the mother and newborn; but with care and devotion, both animals survived.

Because of her twisted spine, Boots has a hard time keeping weight on. Judy started her on prepared mare food and a special herb formula.  Within one week, she was moving more easily than ever before.  She could lie down and run comfortably for the first time.  Judy has set up a small pen where Boots can feed, and where the other horses can't pick on her. Over the summer the mare put on nearly a hundred pounds and Judy says she "looks fantastic.  She meets me at the gate ready to get locked up. When she's through eating she whinnies for me to open the gate and set her free again!"

According to Judy, though Boots needed her help, the healing has gone both ways.   And for the preservation and protection of Boots and other wild horses like her, Judy has set up a nonprofit organization called Spirit of the Wild Horse.  Through her photography, and with other wild horse advocacy groups, Judy has found new purpose and fulfillment in working to stop wild horse roundups and to save America's beautiful wild horses.

My Search for the Meaning of Family

This is the second part of Randi's story begun in Enrichment Inc.'s special Thanksgiving bulletin.

Family dynamics are changing.  Through divorce, adoption, remarriage, long-term committed partnerships and many other avenues, relationship structures are evolving, and with them, our concept of what "family" means.

This past September, I was given a gift from the Universe to spend my birthday on the Big Island of Hawaii.  There I attended a healing retreat with a wonderful facilitator named Anita Casalina, and a group of powerful and incredible women with whom I was blessed to share an amazing, healing experience.  And adding magic and awe to the meaningfulness of our human time together were over 200 beautiful, joyful dolphins that came out to play with us one day in the ocean.

On my final night there, Spirit woke me at 4 a.m.  I made my way up to the kitchen in the dark so as not to awaken the rest of the house.  I brewed some coffee, and took it outside in the quiet, shining moonlight that looked so close to me, I wondered if I could reach out and touch it.  As I began walking, listening to the words my guides wanted to share, I was reminded of the request I'd made long before: "God, please send me a tribe that will nourish my soul"; and suddenly, having an A-ha! moment, I realized that this request that I had made so many years earlier had been granted--not only here on this extraordinary island--but that it was actually being given all along.  I recognized that, just like here, I'd connected deeply with other loving souls on previous wonderful trips I'd taken...and even on Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter!

Sometimes I've been a bit slow to grasp when I was receiving a gift I'd requested.  They don't always arrive in the form we expect or in the shape we think we want.  I have come to understand that, even though I thought my request was for a permanent tribe or family, that may not reflect the way life will be.  Like those heavenly bodies shimmering above me as I walked in soft ocean breezes, some people may shine quietly, not quite within our reach, but always there, blessing us with their presence and their caring.  Others may appear even more intensely before us for a short time, thrill and honor us with their brilliance, and then remain for us not in body but in the gift of learning and memory.  Still others, ones that we can't even see yet, will cast their light our way from a great long distance, to reach us when we need it.

So, as I look ahead, I know that we might not always be together in the same state, or even at the same holiday table; but through the true gifts of life, these connections made from a place of love, each and every one of my tribe members will be with me--even at my Thanksgiving dinner, wherever that may be this year.  (I'm praying for the beach.)

Back in Hawaii, as the retreat came to a close and each of us prepared to make our way home, I looked in the eyes of those with me.  I could feel lightness, and the tremendous amount of healing that had occurred within each of them.  I have always found it easier to see the healing in others than in myself; but a small, wise voice told me, "Allow them to provide the mirror for you."

To Anita:  thank you for teaching from a place of Love; and to all the other powerful, amazing women, thank you for the laughter, joy, tears and oneness that we shared. To the Island Guardians, especially Tianu, your loving presence was felt in every step along the way.  With a loving and very grateful heart, I give thanks.

Broken Open

By Elizabeth Lesser

From Deborah Thackrah:  I recently read this amazing book by Elizabeth Lesser, the founder of Omega Institute.  It touched me deeply, and I've passed it on to several people whose hearts were in need of healing.  Maybe some of your other readers would enjoy it too.

"Broken Open" is Lesser's story about her life:  specifically, how her father's death and her divorce were two life-changing occurrences that set her on her path and enriched her spiritual growth.  It's filled with much honesty, truth, beauty and forgiveness and I felt all of those emotions and more when I read it.

Getting into the Vortex--The Teachings of Abraham
Guided Meditations CD, and User Guide

By Esther and Jerry Hicks

From Randi:  Some of you already know the outstanding work of Esther and Jerry Hicks.  "The Teachings of Abraham" is inspiring and comes from a place of generosity and love.  I recently started using this CD daily to deepen my connection to Source, and I am very grateful to have added such a powerful tool to my tool chest.

Readers, please note:

If you've recently read a book that you love and that has benefitted you, or if you have a favorite inspirational quotation, a tip, an event, or a suggestion that could help another person awaken to their true self, don't keep it from us!  Please pass it along.  We will pick the best to include as space allows.  Send us your submissions by email to: Randi@enrichmentinc.com

We look forward to hearing from you, and thanks!
