Home/Heart
(After 16 years at our current location, we will be moving our studio to a new location in April! Our new home will be in the Pearl building, 1540 15th Avenue, two blocks south of our current studio.)
If home is where the heart is, Many hearts make an even sweeter home. This humble space, 109 15th Avenue East, Seattle, WA, Has witnessed courage, inspiration, challenge, Victory, connection, kindness, recognition, generosity.
These walls have seen a steady stream Of practitioners of the art and science of yoga, The practice that deepens with each passing year In each of us, and reveals steadily its depth and wonder.
So many things have happened here! Our doors opened in 1994 to a tidal wave of students, Hungry for the body bliss and genuine intelligence Of the yogic path.
We were one of only four studios in the city, And every class was jam packed with those brave souls, Who would venture into the strange land of potentially Bizarre yogic practices!
Yoga was not a household word, it was a fringe activity, That no one really understood, But they recognized instantly the benefit of the practices, And the gift of abiding in inner steadiness.
If these walls could, they would weep tears of Admiration, love, and affection, For the beautiful beings that have entrusted us, Your teachers, with bodies and spirits.
Every soul that has been in this room, Has left an impression, sometimes brief, Sometimes steady and long-lasting, And some have even passed from this life, using Their yogic knowledge to ease that profound transition.
We will leave all this: The sound of vegetables being chopped next door, The erratic heating and cooling system, The traffic right outside the door, The jumble of shoes and coats when classes switch, It is all so very precious, and has always been.
Our new studio will be roomier, quiet, have Clean (no longer shared!) bathrooms, a lobby to gather And socialize. And, it will need the juice and spirit Of you. Your yogic dedication, Your heart's devotion, will allow The teachings of yoga to continue To transform so many lives.
